Bowel cancer?

Hi guys I'm Yakeen and I'm 17 years old. So my mum had to leave UK for 6 months for some work related reasons and my dad doesn't live with us which meant I had to live by myself for the time period. Anyways in that time period I did what I reckon anyone of my age given the freedom would do and totally messed up my diet habit. I had peri peri chicken every day and haz coffee every morning whilst skipping breakfast. Anyways so about 2 weeks ago I had like a e day period of stomach ache. My stomach made lots of noises and I released a lot of gas. I also had constipation during this period and the stomach pain usually eased after bowel movement however wasnt completely gone. Most of the people I knew said it sounded like normal gas related problem so I fixed up my diet and the stomach pain went away. However for the last 3 - 5 days I've been noticing blood in my stool. Bright red streaks of blood on the surface of the stool. No stomach ache. Bowel movement schedule not changed either however I do still feel a bit heavy after bowel movements. So being alarmed by my symptoms I visited my GP who performed some physical examinations by checking my belly and anus. There was no sign of fissure on my anus so that couldn't have been the reason for bleeding. However my GP was not alarmed and said bleeding was likely due to constipation. She prescribed me some laxatives and asked to return if the blood persisted. However I'm stressing out so much thinking its bowel cancer. I know it's very rare to get bowel cancer at such young age however I can't stop thinking about it. Please let me know if anyone suffered similar symptoms that turned out to be cancer or something less major. I don't wanna die young :(

  • Welcome to the forum Yakeen although I'm sorry to read what's troubling you.

It may be worth seeing your GP again to discuss your worries as they will be in the best position to answer your questions and put your mind at ease.

Hopefully other members will be along soon to offer their reassurances and advice but in the mean time try to remind yourself of all the positive news your doctor has given you. You may even find the tips and advice on how to manage anxiety on the Anxiety UK website quite helpful at this time as well.

    Kind regards,
