Cancer referral

My daughter has learning disabilities with no capacity to understand properly .

She has been referrered next week to see a Sarcoma specialist with a suspected Sarcoma on her thigh . I am trying to get through everyday caring for her going out and trying to be normal but am struggling and terrified as she would struggle with treatment .

If anybody has any experience with this I would be so grateful .

  • I don't know about every hospital but some have a member of staff with mild learning difficulties and have found that it can be effective with him or her talking with the patient in a way they can understand; I believe it is part of a strategy for making things easier to understand for patients with learning difficulties.  I have no idea how widespread this is but you should talk to the hospital and see if they have a similar strategy.  I don't know a lot about all the different components of these strategies but it must be worth finding out.  Best wishes.  Annie
