Ultrasound on breast lump Thursday - Anxious

Hi everyone,

All evening I have been wondering whether to post or not but you are all very supportive so I thought it may help. I know you guys can't diagnose :)

Here is whats happened so far:

I went to see a specialist at the breast clinic last October 2018 due to breast/ armpit pain on my left side.  They checked me over but sent me away with no concerns. I was happy with this.

Then recently I have been reffered back to the breast clinic for this thursday for an ultrasound/mammogram due to a lump in my left breast that I found. One GP agreed he could feel the lump but due to being an outpatient GP he couldnt reffer me so he told me not to leave it and urgently book in with my GP practice ASAP. His urgent concern worried me straight away, which hasnt helped my anxiety. Luckily, straight away I got an appoitment next day with my GP and she agreed she could feel the lump and also another (Same left breast to previous pain felt Oct 2018 ).  This immediatly panicked me because I have got two lumps and its on the same side that I initially got my stabbing pains in.

In my family, I have had only my nan at a young age be diagnosed with breast cancer and due to this Im really worried because I cant stop thinking what if !?!

Im 25 and I believe I have lumpy boobs anyway. Plus the lumps I think are movable so Im trying to think positivly about this.

I know I wont find out anything untill Thursday but I just cant stop thinking about it all... Im supposed to be going away in three weeks too, which isn't helping because I keep thinking about the worst situation.

I just want thursday to hurry up. Thankfuly my mums coming with me to the appoitment for support.

  • I have the same issue at the moment but my right side, a lump in my breast & pains around my underarm area . I also have a small red patch of skin so have been referred it’s so hard not to worry I feel you! It’s good your mum is coming with you for support and the statistics are far more likely for the lump to be benign than anything untoward which are good positive statistics :) Good luck I hope everything goes well keep us posted x

  • Thank you for replying. It is so hard to not worry but you are so right about the statistics. It’s whats keeping me positive at the moment.

I will keep you updated and I hope everything goes well for you too.

  • How did you get on Magoo? Hope everything went well on Thursday x

  • Hi, hope you’re doing a little bit better since I realised this post is just over a week old but I just thought I’d stop and try and reassure you with my own experience. I’m only 20, 21 soon so similar age to you and late December last year I noticed a large lump in one of my boobs that I’d never felt before. I’d never had any lumps in my boobs so straight away I thought it must be cancer. I was in a constant state of crying and worrying but luckily I managed to get an appointment at hospital and they did an ultrasound and said it was just breast tissue that I could feel. Since then I’ve had a few more lumps checked out that have all been fine. I know family members and friends who have all had lumps that have been nothing so try not to worry too much. I know how hard it is but hopefully your story will be a positive one like mine :)

    best of luck! X

  • Thank you for this!! Just what I needed to read to calm down a bit!

i found a 1cm lump on my inner lower quadrant of my left breast which I’m being referred for and I’m convinced it’s cancer! I’m only 26 with a little baby so I’m petrified!

  • Hi Kirsty

I’m just wondering how you got on at the referral?

I’m in exactly the same situation as you at the minute; 33, new mum (11 weeks today), 1cm lump found in left breast  very close to nipple (lower quadrant).

I’m terrified as there’s history of breast and other cancers in my family.
