Sore throat, pain in neck and itchy ears!

Hi everyone

I am 25 years old and for the past few months I’ve had a terrible sore throat, tender neck, so tender that I can’t wear a jumper or have anything touching my neck! Hurts to swallow and I feel like I’m straining to talk! Always loosing my voice! I’m in pain all day! I also have itchy ears and sometimes get tingling in my lips! My thyroid feels a little swollen! I have a 7 month old baby so looking after him and trying to be happy for him is really difficult! I feel like I’m getting pretty depressed! I cry all the time! Only because of the pain! The doctors are not sure what’s wrong they have done swabs and blood tests! Nothing has come back! My throat and ears look fine but they have said my thyroid maybe feels a little inflamed. (Thyroid blood test came back normal) so I have been fast tracked referred to the head and neck department which I have an appointment in 2 weeks. I’m terrified it’s cancer plus I don’t know what to expect! I’m a complete mess! I feel terrible for my son! I’m trying to spend all my time with with him making him happy but it’s so hard feeling like this. Anyone else had these symptoms? My family wonders if it’s just like Thyroiditis or glandular fever but It upsets me more coz I’m like well obviously the doctor thinks it’s serious!

  • Hello Sabrina93,

I am sorry to hear you are feeling so down about this and I can imagine it is really difficult to look after a baby while having those thoughts racing through your mind and being in so much pain.

It's good the doctors have done swabs and blood tests and it won't be long now until you get your results. The wait for your appointment can seem endless and I hope you will hear from others here who have been through this before and that they will share their experience with you.

Try not to feel bad for your son I am sure he is enjoying your company just as much. Perhaps a good thing to do at the moment if you can while you are waiting for these results and appointments is to keep busy with your little one as you have been doing, taking him to playgroups or the park and trying to distract yourself from this worry. I know it isn't easy to do though at the moment and I hope you get some answers very soon.

    Best wishes,
