Hello. I’m new here so not sure what to expect to be honest. I’ve had a mole on my stomach all of my life but it’s started getting itchy quite often and it has changed colour. It is now patchy so I was concerned and went to the doctors today. He’s referred me to get it looked at by a dermatologist hopefully within 2 weeks! Does anyone know what they’ll do when I get there?? He mentioned it could be cancerous and then just kicked me out the door. I’m really worried?? Also how long does it normally take to wait for an appointment?? Thanks for reading xx

    Hi Aimee, I’m sorry about your recent worry. If your doctor even suspects the possibility of cancer I think your refferal will come within weeks. My guess is if the dermatologist is concerned about your mole then they will take a small biopsy (piece of the mole) and send it away to test if the cells are cancerous. Please remember firstly if it could be cancerous it also could very easily NOT be cancerous so please try to remember that and be as calm as possible.. I wish you a speedy check up and a positive outcome.

    Hi, 

    The same thing happened to me a few years ago, I got referred to have the mole removed as they were worried about it as it changed colour and shape. I had it removed and the problem was solved. Most of the time it is nothing to worry about, you might just have to have it removed just in case like me. 

    You definitely did the right thing going to the doctor, I also know from experience if they are really concerned they will rush your appointment through within days so the fact you are waiting 2 weeks shows the doctor isn’t overly worried. Obviously I can’t say for certain as I’m not a doctor but please try not to worry!

    Hello! I’m so glad yours was nothing to worry about :) thanks for replying to my post too. Yeah the doctor said maximum will be 2 weeks as that’s normal for waiting on a referral but hopefully it won’t be that long x
