Lump and redness of breast

About 4 weeks ago I noticed a red patch on my breast (fairly small and resembles the look of sunburn) now a week ago I also felt a lump under the skin, & the red patch is a bit larger went to my GP and was given a week course of flucloxacillan - this has made no difference and i’m now fearing the worst! I have been referred to a breast clinic but told this will take around 3 weeks! Have major anxiety now i’m struggling to think about going about things normally for the next 3 weeks while full of worry! Anyone any tips on how to stay calm or suffered the same thing?

  • Hello,

Thank you, I will give the nurses a call on Monday it’s probably nothing just any changes in my breasts are concerning me at the minute

Not yet I took today off too & tomorrow is my set day off so i’ll aim for Monday. I’m one of those people that want to hide away when i’m anxious unfortunately & my work is a really highly populated place so I immediately want to run in the opposite direction of it lol but I’ll see how I go next week a fresh start & a week closer to getting my appointment so hopefully a bit more positivity :)

    Hi Natasha,

It would certainly be worth phoning the nurses on Monday and having a chat. Just a word of advice, you may need to take a lot of time off if anything untoward is found, so try not to use up too much sick leave now, when your need might be greater further down the line.

You are slowly getting closer to your appointment and, you will feel better once you know what you are dealing with.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi everyone,

back again .. just wondering has anyone ever gone private & if so how quickly were you seen? My referral was only sent last Thursday & I am going out of my mind with worry! So was wondering if I went private I would be seen before my NHS referral? (Ps I am from Scotland)

    Thanks

    Natasha

  • Hi, sorry your are going through a such a stressful time at the moment. I was in the same boat 5 years ago, my referal for the local hospital was nearly 3 weeks away and I would have driven myself mad with worry by then so I went private got an appointment the next day,  was unfortunately diagnosed with breast cancer the same day. It cost £1500 with all the tests, as far as I a concerned it was money well spent, I couldn't afford to have all my treatment privately so the doctor referred me to a large London hospital where her friend was a consultant oncologist. My cancer is incurable but I'm still here and doing well thanks to their excellent care. Hopefully yours will turn out to be nothing serious. I know I was lucky not everyone can afford it, but my advice, if you can go for it. Good luck x

  • I’m so sorry you had to go through this and of your diagnosis, I hope if I do get diagnosed I can be as strong as you fighting on, I hope you get many more years to come . Thank you so much for your information, I will look into some private clinics tomorrow it is good to hear you found the private clinic a positive experience.

Thanks again for taking the time to reply, much appreciated

    Take Care xx

    HI nh123,

Why not phone some of the private hospitals in your locality and ask how long you would have to wait? You could also ask for a quotation in respect of a consultation and diagnostic tests.

Waiting to be seen and then waiting for results is always an anxious time, but just remember that of all the referrals to breast clinics nationwide, only 1 person out of 10 will have cancer.

Here's hoping that you are one of the lucky ones.

Please let us know how you get on. We are always here or you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

    Hi Emerald,

Welcome to our community. I am so sorry to hear that your cancer is inoperable, but am glad to hear that you are receiving excellent care.

I am glad to hear that you were able to save yourself weeks of worry by going privately.

Have you had any treatment despite being inoperable?

I do hope that you continue to get good care and that you will be with us for many years to come.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

    Hi Natasha,

I'm glad to hear that you now have an appointment for Monday. I am not a doctor, but doubt that there will be any problem with taking travel sick tablets.

I hope that all goes well for you on Monday.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • So I went today & had an ultrasound- they could feel the lump physically but nothing showed on the ultrasound?? Said it looked the same as the other side & they didn’t see anything jump out? They didn’t say it was a Fibroadenoma or a Cyst or anything? So i have a very large lump and redness for .. nothing? My mind doesn’t feel completely at ease has this happened to anyone else? They told me if the redness & mass persists to go back in 2 months time
