Breast lump and shoulder blade pain

Hi, I'm Lottie, I'm 41 and I'm going to the breast clinic on Monday.  I had thyroid cancer 10 years ago and I went to the gp last week with a small lump in my right breast underneath a skin tag which has been weeping a bit. I mentioned my breast is itchy and I have had pain in my right shoulder blade for about 6 months and I got my appointment letter in the post 2 days later. I haven't told anyone about this, I have MS so my family and friends have done enough worrying about me. Can I ask please, do any of you have a similar experience? Thanks xx

  • Thanks for messaging back, I went to Dr's Friday and my GP as referred me back to my Breast Surgeon. He said it might not be anything to worry about but he can't rule anything out either and he wasn't taking any chances. I should have a letter in the new year. Fingers crossed its all good news, but the way I'm feeling I don't think so. X

    Hi Duggy,

I am glad to hear that you have already seen your GP and been referred to the breast clinic. Do please let us know when you get your appointment through and how you get on. This is a horrible time of year to be left waiting (not that there is ever a good time), but please remember that we are here right throughout the holiday if you need someone to talk to.

I am still hoping that you'll get good news, but even if you don't, you have hopefully caught it early and, can do something about it.

    Kind regards,
    Jolamine xx

  • Thanks for messaging back hun, yeah it was very quick that I got to see the GP and fairplay he was very good. Fingers crossed as they say for good news. I just hope that it's nothing serious. I will let you know the outcome and thank you once again. X

  • Hi everyone. Duggy68 and jolamine what was your outcomes as my symptoms are the same. I have pain in my right breast for a month went to the doctors and she found two small lumps said they felt like cysts but referred me to be safe due to them causing pain. The pain is in the area of the lumps my right shoulder blade and armpit. I have my appointment on the 12th of this month. Xx

  • Hi grace

i found a lump last a week ago on Friday when I felt stabbing pains under my arms. Went to the docs and was referred. Since then both breasts and under arms have what I can only describe as slow pins and needles. It's like the feeling of breast milk coming in after you've had a baby (not sure if you have kids). The lump and both boobs are quite sore now. I have my appt at breast clinic on Tuesday. I am really panicking now and trying not to cry when I look at my kids. The brain does terrible things during the wait - I feel like I am going mad!!

    Hi Grace,

Welcome to our forum. I am so sorry to hear about your symptoms. It is reassuring that your GP believes that your lumps feel more like cysts. Still, I am glad to hear that she has referred you to the breast clinic.

I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer in the past 11 years. On both occasions, most of the discomfort in my breast came after I discovered a lump whilst I was having a shower. I suspect that the lump became tender after that because I kept feeling it to see if there was any change. I was diagnosed with a grade 1 mucinous carcinoma both times.

First time around I had a lumpectomy, then took Tamoxifen for a year. When I discovered my second cancer a year after my first diagnosis, I had a bilateral mastectomy, followed by Letrozole for 6 years. I stopped taking this in July 2017.

I can't say that it was an easy journey, but I'm still here and living a worthwhile life. Do please let us know how you get on at the clinic. We are always here for you.

I shall have my fingers crossed for you on 12th.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

You are doing the right thing to get this checked out.

    Hi Missb1,

I am sorry to hear about the lump you have found and, the stabbing pain under your arms. It is unusual to have pain associated with breast cancer, so I hope that the news is better once you attend the breast clinic.

If it is of any consolation to you, we all tend to imagine all sorts of terrible things at this stage - fortunately, this seldom happens. Of all the people referred to the breast clinic, only 1 person in 8 will be diagnosed with breast cancer, so I hope that you are one of the lucky ladies.

I sincerely hope that all goes well for you on Tuesday. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thank you for replying miss b1, you have given the way I feel some normality. The brain definitely does do terrible things i have 3 children and feel exactly the same the thoughts I've had i wouldn't say out loud, I feel like I dont have the right to be so upset atm.i feel like my Other half doesnt understand and with isolation atm very alone which is y I ended up here. I will have to go to my appointment alone too as my  OH will be looking after the kids. Xx

    Hi Grace,

It's ok to go to your first appointment on your own, as you will most likely just be having tests. The important appointments to have someone with you tend to be the ones where you are getting test results. The first of these would be your appointment 1-2 weeks after your first appointment. I know how difficult things are with the pandemic at present. Is there anyone who you could leave the children with ? Failing this, do you have a friend or relative that you could take with you?

The way you're feeling at the moment is perfectly normal, as is your hubby's reaction. Things will improve once you know what you are dealing with.

I shall be thinking of you on Tuesday.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
