9 week wait for urgent referral!

Hi everyone, this is my first post. I went to my GP on 21 Feb having found a sizeable lump in my left breast. My nipple has also been bleeding. She examined me, immediately said she would urgently refer me to the hospital, and I'd be seen within 2 weeks. 2 weeks came and went, not a cheep, so I phoned the hospital, only to be told that all urgent referrals are currently taking 8-9 weeks. Staff shortages apparently. I'm out of my mind with worry. I lost both parents to cancer when they were fairly young, and my mum lost her battle in large part because of the late diagnosis. I don't know how I'm going to cope waiting another 6-7 weeks.  My mental health is really suffering right now. I've got 4 young children who need me, and I'm trying to be as normal as possible for them, but this is agonising. Anyone else had to wait this long ?

  • I'm in a similar situation my appointment has come in for the 12th of May,  I've already been waiting 3 weeks . I have had emergency breat appointments in the past and I was seen within 10 days and I have cptsd so mentally I've been struggling.  But I was told by mcmillans that to call the appointments department and ask to be put on the cancellation list.  My young brother has cancer just now and my cousin so trying not to be stressed is hard. So my doctor has organised 1to1 counselling and mcmillans have  been great.  So you aren't on your own.

  • I'm in Scotland too. I'm in West Lothian so I'm not sure if it's just certain areas. I'm trying to convince myself it's just mondors disease. My son is autistic so I'm telling him I'm OK when he can clearly I'm not. Mt doctor was shocked that I hadn't been seen yet as its marked urgent.   In the past I've had non cancers lumps and cysts and an abscess but this is different and it's definitely not any off the above . So this time like you the waiit is hard as I just need to know so I can deal with it

  • Hi Sunshine1kaz,

I just wanted to send a reply to welcome you to Cancer Chat, and also to mention that it looks like Mammaof4 hasn't been active on the forum in a few years. Hopefully you will still receive a reply, but otherwise you can also create your own new discussion on the forum if you would like to.

    Wishing you all the best,

  • Awh thank you for the welcome I hadn't checked the dates I just looked to see if others were waiting such a long time. But thanks for pointing that out.

  • Hi Sunshine, I’ve been told I have Mondors ,did you get your results?

  • Hey Nessie,

I'm not sure if you're aware, but this discussion was last active over a year ago and unfortunately Sunshine1kaz hasn't been on the forum in a little while either.

I do hope they return to update you on their situation but if you don't receive a reply you're welcome to try reaching out to others on more recent and active discussions you find about this topic on the forum.
