Will I get offered treatment

I have been told I have a cancerous tumour at the base of my tongue which has now spread locally. Speech is now difficult as is swallowing, also constant pain on right side of face. Going in tomorrow for doctor's to see how bad the situation is. I am do worried that it may already be too late and that I will die in pain.

    Hi Dover,

    Welcome to the forum.

I am so sorry to hear about your tumour and how it is affecting you. I hope that the doctors will be able to reassure you that they can do something to help you when you see them tomorrow.

As Chrissie says, we all expect the worst when we are diagnosed at first, but fortunately, this seldom turns out to be the case.

Let me also reassure you that nobody should die in pain nowadays. Medication often needs to be adjusted as our condition progresses, but, providing that this is done, we should be able to manage it.

Do please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

I shall be thinking of you tomorrow and, saying a prayer that things are nowhere near as bad as you are thinking.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

    Hi Dover,

How did you get on with your appointment last week - did the doctors commit to anything? I hope that you get some answers from your PET scan.

I shall be thinking of you next Monday.
    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi, they are not committing to anything other than to say the tumour is obstructing my windpipe which meant they had to go via my voice box to send me to sleep for the biopsy. Seeing SALT tomorrow. x

    Hi Dover,

I shall be thinking of you tomorrow and hope that all goes well.

  • Just come back from hospital .My only chance is major surgery to remove all of my tongue and my voice box. May then need a feeding tube and permanent tracheostomy.

Has anyone else had this surgery.

    Hi Dover,

Thank you for your update. This is certainly not the news we wanted to hear. I am sure that someone who has had this surgery will come along soon, but I just wanted to say how sorry I am.

Have you got a date for surgery yet? This may sound awful at the moment, but I'm sure that you will deal with it all. It's amazing what you can do when your back is up against thhe wall.

Dare I ask, how are you feeling about this diagnosis?

Thinking of you and wishing you the strength to get through this.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
