Endoscopy biopsies

Hi. I am new to the forum. My first post. I am 41. During a GP appointment I mentioned to my GP that I had trouble swallowing intermittently. He quickly refered me for an upper endoscopy. That was 3 weeks ago. The procedure went well. They took biopsies from proximal, mid and distal positions and some from the stomach. They said there were "no lumps or bumps" they thought I could have Eosinophilic oesophagitis in the distal area. Just as they entered my oesophagus they took a few biospsies as they said the area didn't look right. The endoscopists and the assistant said the word squamous but could this just mean the lining of my oesophagus they were talking about? As they didn't say they suspected cancer. I still haven't had any biopsy results. Would I have heard by now if there was something sinister? I rang the endoscopy department last week (I dont have a gastro consultant) the secretary said the results were on the endoscopists desk and I would get a results letter soon once she looked at them. Am I right in thinking that this is a good sign? Sorry for the rambling post.

  • I honestly feel for you so much I can't believe they are making you wait even longer! I can't even imagine how annoyed you are. I'm frustrated just waiting for my next ENT appointment. Stay positive though no news is good news. My doctor told me that If there was anything negative in my results then normally a phone call will be made 3-5 days after.
    wishing you all the best!!

  • Thank you all for your reply, I understand no news is good news, only thing is letting my mind understand that.

I am just hoping there isn't a backup on testing and they didn't get to mind yet, I'm sure there cant be that many people are tested for the Same thing as me,

Staying positive will update when I get the results.

    Thanks again.

Ps.will advise if anyone is going in for Endoscopy do not get the sedation as I was sedated and had the spray, and I remember everything, the medication they gave me didn't work, and I am still traumatic till this day, if was to have this procedure done again, they would have to given me a General Anaesthetic. and I will make it clear if the medication hasn't kicked in, I wouldn't want anyone to go through what I did

    It can be very disturbing.

  • Oh no :( why was it so bad? I'm hoping I don't need one x

  • Did you ever get your results? Inhad these exact same symptoms and i tested positive for Cealiac disease.

  • Yes I had the results took a whole came back negative where I had server food Poisoning with serve dehydration, was a bad bug that could of killed me, I didn't get any medication for it, as usually the medication makes it worst, like I wasn't bad enough, but it worked it way out of my lower and upper gut, my body mass is coming back and my weight now is 10st 3, I had to be determined to get through, as no one really from my doctors really want to help or deal with it, just sent you home with keep drinking water and eat small amounts 3 times a day, it also stated on the test that I also has gastritis, so all you could do is wait it out, drinking plenty of sterile water not tap water, or if you have to drink tap water bool cool down put in fridge and drink, I am now eating more now and feeling hungry for the first time in 3yrs, I hope this helps, just be patient with your body, it will repair its self, also cod liver oil tablets capsules, seven seas. Once a day

Before you no it your energy will be back weight will be on point and body mass will return

     Hope this has helped you.x

  • this happened to me too. went off briefly then came to choking and went into panic!!! first one i had was fine   same sedative never felt a thing but this time well never again. very traumatic.

  • Hi

I am Neil and 31 and for a few months I have been feeling sick a lot and being sick on quite a few occasions, really bad bloating extremely breathless, upper abdominal pain, lots of heartburn, blood in my sick and really suffering after eating especially bad this past few weeks when I used to be able to eat a very substantial amount.

I finally went to the doctors after a couple of hospital A+E visits and after one appointment I have been sent for an upper endoscopy and biopsy. It is this Sunday and just starting to worry slightly as I have seen people waiting for long periods and I got one the next week. Should I be worried or just see it as lucky?

Has anyone else had similar symptoms to mine? And if so any advice or feedback or can you brace me lol.

Thanks for reading abs look forward to hearing back,

    Neil
