Worrying symptoms, waiting for procedure..

Hi, I'm new here. I'm really worried about my symptoms and was hoping for some advice.

I've always had heavy periods, so has my mum. I used to get awful back ache, cramps, diarrhoea etc, went to my GP a while ago and was sent for a scan which came back normal, so ignored it.

I met my partner 7 years ago but I've never been much of a sexual person, and I noticed sometimes during sex it would feel uncomfortable.. which I always put down to not really wanting to do it. I also noticed that occasionally I bled afterwards, only very lightly and only now and then and I always thought it was just my period coming on as it was always around my period time.

About half a year ago my bleeding became irregular.. I was spotting/light bleeding after my period ended. I was too scared to go to the GP.

I finally went in December, was sent for a scan and swabs. Both came back normal but the nurse noticed some erosion on my cervix, which she said could explain my symptoms. I went back to my doctor today who is referring me for a colposcopy. She said she thinks it's unlikely it's cancer but we can't rule it out.

I'm terrified. I'm only 23. What happens if it's cancer? Should I be worried? I'm stuck between intense panic and not worrying, convinced it's just the erosion causing my symptoms. Please help.

  • Hi there ...

If your Dr says it looks unlikely, it sounds like the odds are on your side .. they check these things more now, because they want to be sure ... so l wouldn't over think it ... though I know that's easier said then done .. but I'd think it sounds like something treatable, but they need to know exactly what ..

So try to keep busy .. we've all been there waiting for tests ... so hold on ... and fingers crossed for a good result ...  chrissie x
