My Story... Should I be worried?

Hi all, I'm a 24 year old White British Male. I'm 5'11 and around 123kg (19 - 19.5 stone).

My story starts around 4-5 years ago, when I was 19-20. I was sat at work one day (office job) and I suddenly felt an incredibly painful, sharp pain towards my groin/testicles. I quickly ran to the bathroom to examine myself. I couldn't feel or see anything out of the ordinary, but the pain lasted around 15 minutes. Thankfully, it slowed down and stopped. I never felt such a sharp pain in that exact area again, however I still get slight aches/pains most days since then. I never went to the doctors about this as the severe pain didn't come back. I was initially worried I had testicular torsion but I assume I didn't.

A few months after this, I began expericing sharp pains that was around the top of my groin/below my belly area. Sometimes the pain was so bad, I couldn't stand up. However, after these pains I had to quickly rush to the toilet to have diarrhea. I fobbed it off that I was just having bad cramps from it. Again, I didn't go to the doctors straight away as the pain was gone after I had gone to the toilet. To this day, I stll get these cramps every now and then, but they aren't anywhere near as bad thankfully.

About a year after this, I went to the doctors about it, as I was still getting the cramps. I had blood tests done, and they felt around my belly for any swelling etc. Blood tests came back fine, and I was told it was likely IBS since my symptoms improve after a bowel movement. They told me to keep a track of food I eat and see if I can find any triggers. I haven't been able to find any triggers. I ate the same things every day for a week, and still got the cramps on some days. I also tried going lactose-free for 2 weeks to see if it was a food intolerence, but it didn't change, milk didn't cause the cramps.

About 6-7 months ago, maybe a bit more, I've started to experience chest pains. It moves around, some days it's the top right of my chest, sometimes the middle of my chest, sometimes the left etc. I went to to the doctors about this, and they initially told me it was chest strain from celebrating England doing well in the world cup (that's how long ago this started). I thought that was rediculous as I'm not really into football.

I went to the doctors again about a month after that, and they told me it's looking like Costochondritis , and prescribed me Neproxen. Admiteddly, I haven't taken any yet, mainly because my chest pain isn't severe, it's just a dull ache that's constant and comes and goes.

I've also noticed in the last 2-3 months, at most, I've been yawning a lot at work. I'm constantly tired, even though I go to bed at a reasonable time and sleep for 7-8 hours. People at work keep telling me to shut up yawning haha...

For some time aswell, I've been having weird memory problems. I've noticed my partner has been telling me "I've already told you this before" more then usual (she calls it selective hearing!), but I'm unsure if this could be related to anything.

I'm currently sat here typing this, with a weird groin pain that sometimes goes down to my testicle then back up to my groin again. I've not had much chest pain today thankfully, but I did get those cramps again earlier for a short while before going to the toilet (I sometimes also pass wind a lot when I get the cramps).

I'm just not sure what to do anymore. My GP seems convinced I'm 'too young to get anything bad' etc. They mainly listen to my heartbeat whenever I go, and that's about it.

On a side note - I don't know if this is normal, but at the side of my penis, the skin that goes down that connects to my scrotum, on both sides it feels like.. inflammed in a way? Hard to explain really.

Should I be worried about anything I am going through?

  • Hello SoreGroin,

Thank you for posting.  I can appreciate that it must be worrying for you if you don’t feel that your problems are being diagnosed properly.  Unfortunately, we cannot help you get a diagnosis.  Only a doctor can diagnose you.  If you are unhappy with the way you have been looked after by your current doctor you may want to consider getting a second opinion. Do mention all the symptoms you are concerned about including your concerns about the skin that connects to your scrotum. Your doctor will be in the best position to examine it and tell you what it might be. You can find out more about getting a second opinion here .

I hope you find the reassurance you need.

    Best wishes,
