Multidisciplinary Team Meeting

Hi, I wonder if anyone can shed any light. My husband had an ultrasound (after 5 months of telling our GP that something was wrong).  It showed liver lesions, several abdominal swellings (one measuring 10cm x 15cm) and abnormally large lymph nodes. He was referred to Colorectal specialist 2 weeks later, had a CT scan 2 weeks after that. Today we received a letter saying "your scan has unfortunately confirmed that the liver is involved with multiple spots. The CT scan does not suggest where the primary problem is and i have referred you to a specialist".  Worried sick.  No mention of cancer, no mention its not cancer . We phoned and apparently the scan has been referred to MDT for review - how long does this generally take. Talk about mentally draining.  Thanks in advance

  • Hi Katyn,  the waiting is the worst but up to now it seems your procedures have been normal.  All these things take time and meetings are held with numerous other people to discuss what they think and the way forward.  So unfortunately you have to try and keep calm, take it a day at a time and know that if there is anything seriously wrong they will act on it quickly.  There are guidelines in place now for how long they can take so progress will be made.  Waiting is the worst, we've all gone through it but you do come out the other side knowing one way or an what is going on.  So keep busy and don't look at Google or try and diagnose yourself.  The only people who can help and make the right decision are the specialists.  Good luck and let us know what happens.  Carol

  • Thank you - frustration takes over sensibleness doesnt it.  This waiting game is horrid x

  • Yes it is, we're two years on from diagnosis of stage 4 lung cancer so I understand how hard the waiting is, the unknown is the worst.  Take care.  Carol
