Testicular Cancer and Prosthesis

Hi everyone

I'm 21 and last week I was sadly told there's a very high chance that I have testicular cancer in one testicle. They couldn't give me an official diagnosis but they're almost certain from looking at scans. My symptoms were unusual. I don't have lumps, and the testicle is smaller but from what I saw online it seems as if the testicle tends to swell in size and often has lumps to signify cancer. Anyway the scans show 'lesions' and they are 99% sure it's cancer. So they got me into hospital very quickly and I had the surgery to remove my testicle 3 days ago. Recovery is rather uncomfortable. They're taking a look at my testicle now that it's out and I have a meeting with the surgeons/consultants next week to discuss the results. Also I have a CT scan 2 days before then to check over the rest of my body.

Anyway that's the background of it. Along with my constant worry of cancer spreading throughout the rest of my body (unlikely I know because of the type of cancer it is, it tends to be contained but I can't help but worry), I'm now concerned about my fake ball! It's starting to settle down but I just would feel better about having it if I could get some answers and some advice from another guy who maybe has one as well, or someone who knows somebody else with one. Can I wear skinny jeans/tight trousers as this is my preferred look? Does it affect my sex life? Does it ever hurt the other testicle if they hit together for example, with it being a lot harder than a real testicle? I probably should have asked the surgeon these questions but when you're in these situations I guess you tend to forget a lot of stuff.

Any help is very much appreciated :)

Thank you,

Joe

  • Hi Joe and welcome to Cancer Chat.

Unfortunately I couldn't find anyone on the forum that has been posting about this lately but you're more than welcome to discuss this with our cancer nurses. You can call them next week on 0808 800 4040 between 9a.m - 5p.m.

As you've said towards the end of your post, your surgeon (or medical team) will be able to answer your questions so do be sure to make a note of what you've asked us so you can take it with you to your appointment next week.

Good luck with your results Joe, I hope they bring good news, and I wish you all the best with the rest of your recovery.

    Kind regards,
