Lump in groin

My best friend has recently been diagnosed with follicular lymphoma. As a result I decided to check myself and found a rather large, hard mass in my groin. I was worried I was overthinking because of my friend but my husband is adamant it's a lump. You can also clearly feel another pea sized lymph node next to it. I reluctantly went to my GP but as soon as she heard about my friend  I could see her switch off, thinking I'm probably just stressing for that reason. She found the lump and said because it feels elongated she doubts it's a lymph node and told me to come back in month if I'm still worried. She said the pea sized node next to it is perfectly normal but you can't feel anything on the opposite side of my groin in the same area. Couldn't offer me a solution for the hard mass other than "it might just be a normal part of my body you haven't noticed before". I'm not sure what to think now. There's a clear lump. I guess I'll have to wait a month as suggested but I feel she was quite dismissive.

  • Hi MarDal.

I'm sorry to hear that your friend has been given this diagnosis and that you have also been experiencing some heath concerns.

It's understandable that you might be worried given your friends recent diganosis. If you've never checked yourself before then it could be possible that this lump has always been there but it's also perfectly normal to want some reassurance.

Is there another GP in your practice that you could make an appointment to see for a second opinion if you don't feel that you can wait?

Hopefully you won't have to wait too long before you get some answers.

    Best wishes
