WORRYING SYMPTOMS OF CERVICAL CANCER

I feel very unfair commenting on this amazing page full of inspirational individuals however I am reaching out for some support and reassurance. I am 21 years old with a 3 year old baby boy. I have always had problems with abnormal bleeding and it was put down to contraception over the last year and a half I have now been off all contraception for 11 months and have bled 3 weeks out of every month. The blood is not fresh and red it is brown and thick. The days I do not bleed I have watery brown discharge with pieces of tissue through it. I have tummy pain and lower back pain and cannot pick myself up with the fatigue. My mother had stage 3 cervical cancer at 19 years old which worries me greatly. I have been refused a smear test due to my age and I await an appointment with gynaecology. Did anyone have similar symptoms?

  • Hi,

Sorry to hear you have had this worry on your shoulders for so long. That is not good for your health and well being in general! Have you spoken to the GP about your mother having the cervical cancer so young? Definitely don't let it go. Explain how the bleeding is affecting your daily life and your child's life and you want to get to the bottom of it. There are tests they can do and rule out certain things. Hopefully the gynaecology clinic will be able to offer you more information. Hope you get to the bottom of it quickly.

  • Hi Demilee,

Sorry to hear how bad you’ve been feeling. You must be exhausted between your own body and looking after your wee one. I did have similar symptoms which turned out to be endometriosis. I couldn’t take contraceptive pills either. This was all over 20 years ago for me. Try not to worry which is easier said than done, I know. I’ve got my CT test results tomorrow.

Get your GP to make sure you’re not anemic and lots of heat pads on your tummy and lower back when possible.

    Good luck

  • Hi, thank you so much for your response. I told my GP about my mum twice and was told oh no that’s too young it couldn’t of been cancer. It was most definitely and was picked up on her smear after her first baby. Hopefully I get an appointment with gynaecology soon. Thank you x

  • Hi carol, thanks for your reply.

i am exhausted to the point I can’t get out of bed but you have no choice with a little one and work. Endometriosis has crossed my mind is that something gynaecology can confirm it is? I have been on the pill, depo, implant, patch ad coil and have bled on all of them after 7 months of trying them. I am going to get an appointment to check for anemia as I was told I had anemia last year.

    thank you kindly x
