Hoarse voice 6 weeks

Hi,

So for the past 6 weeks I have had a hoarse/ meek voice and after a trip to the doctors and a course of antibiotics (which did nothing) have been put for an emergency referel to ENT. I can't explain why, but I'm so worried it's something untoward. My ears feel like I'm on an aeroplane also and my throat aches, but not sever pain. Has anyone had anything similar?

Also the hospital have said they have no app and are looking to put on more clinics so am left waiting and wondering :(

  • Hello JJ42,

    Welcome to our forum.

It's good you have seen the doctor about your hoarse voice and that they have referred you to a specialist. I am sorry to hear though that you feel you have been left waiting and I hope you get an appointment very soon.

I also hope you will hear from others here who have had a similar experience.

    Best wishes,

  • I have my appointment now, tomorrow in fact which is within a week so haven't had to wait. Fingers crossed I get some answers.

    Thanks x

  • Hi JJ42, I'm glad you have your appointment sorted.

A few years ago I saw my GP as my voice was croaky/hoarse and felt like I ran out of steam when talking, "voice fade" I called it. After an ENT referral when they had a look at my vocal chords, everything was declared fine. Well it wasn't as my voice still misbehaved.

The GP gave me some tablets in case it was caused by acid reflux, especially at night. They helped a little. Then not long after I was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid. Once I started treatment for that, my voice went back to normal. It went hoarse again a year or so later, so I had another thyroid test which showed I needed a higher dose of tablets. Sorted, for now at least. Oh, and my throat was achey before thyroid treatment.

Hopefully you'll be given some news soon from the clinic, fingers crossed for you.

    regards, gamechanger
