Waiting for tests and results

My husband went for a chest x ray last Monday and was told to make an appointment at the doctors for 10 days time.  2 hours after the x ray, wed got a call from the doctors asking him to go in the next day.

The doctor said the x ray showed an abnormal gray mass and a CT scan appointment was made. He also referred him to a specialist. The doctor did use the word cancer, said that it didn't look good and referred him for the above, and said to go down the cancer route .

Sunday is the CT scan and next Thursday is thed specialist. He's emotionally up and down but he had a shadow on his lung 4 years ago that a GO wasn't worried about, we just can't remember which lung. Is a 'grey mass' different to a 'shadow'? How do you cope with the waiting and the what It's? Thank you.

  • Hi Wilma

I feel for you and your hubby. Waiting is the pits. I don't have any answers but do know I am thinking about you both. I am sure somebody will come along and post a helpful answer.

  • Hello Wilma, I'm virtually in the same scenario. Had chest X-ray last Monday, called by GP on Friday who said I needed an urgent CT scan because they've spotted something at the top of the left lung and they want to exclude lung cancer. Would also need blood tests for renal function before, because they will inject a contrast dye at the scan. They've arranged CT for tomorrow afternoon. 2 years ago I had a CT scan and it showed emphysema in the right lung so I'm really hoping(if that's the right word to use!) that's what they will find in the left lung too or maybe just infection.

Try to be positive, but I know from this experience how hard and worrying it is. You can only hope for the best and put negative thoughts away for now. Sincerely hope your husband will be OK and hope I will be too! Let us know how he gets on and fingers crossed.
