Breast Cancer symptoms

Hi, im new on here and for several months ive had itching on the right breast which has become so bad i went to the doctor who did an examination and said that there was thickening in my breast. i went back 3 weeks later as my breast is now larger, the itching on the nipple has become worse, there is more thickening and i was referred to the hospital. My appointment is next week which i am nervous about but on Friday i found a hard lump in my right armpit - even got my husband to check in case i was imagining it, which i wasnt. Ive been experiencing like a dead arm feeling since (doc said its probably because ive disturbed the nerves) Ive also noticed that the colour of my right nipple is a different colour

Looking for some advice or if anyone has had similiar symptoms and what the outcome was?

  • Hello and thanks for posting on the forum,

I am sorry to hear about your situation.  I can understand that it can be very unsettling waiting to find out what is going on.

We are not able to tell anyone what is the matter. I am afraid I cannot say what could be causing your symptoms.  At the breast clinic you will see a breast specialist or a specialist nurse who will examine you.  You will have an ultrasound and possibly a mammogram.  A needle biopsy is usually suggested if the scan shows changes in the breast that the doctors are not sure about.  This does not mean that anything is particularly wrong but the biopsy will confirm this.

Many women visiting a breast clinic are found not to have cancer.  There are many different breast conditions that can occur.  There is some information about visiting a breast clinic written by the charity Breast Cancer Care which you can look at here

I know that it is difficult waiting, but unfortunately, only until you have been seen at the clinic and your symptoms have been investigated, will they know what is going on.

I do hope that this has helped.  You are very welcome to give us a ring to talk this through. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Best Wishes,

    Catherine
