Recall 1st Mammogram

I'm aged 40 with a family of two. Having two friends diagnosed with breast cancer I thought I should at least start getting screened and on the system.  I didn't think it was anything to really worry about.

However I received a letter to say they have noticed some irregularities and I have to go back. The call back is 2-3 weeks. Is there anyway of been seen sooner. The waiting is awful. I'm keeping a positive mind but the longer I wait the more anxious I'm feeling.

Thank you.

  • Hi Debbie and welcome to Cancer Chat.

It's understandable why you would be worried upon finding out you've been called back but this seems to be a regular occurrence for people having a mammogram for the first time as our members have mentioned in other discussions on the forum so try not to let your worry get the better of you if you can.

If you'd like to be seen sooner you could try getting in touch with the clinic to let them know how anxious you are and that you're willing to take a cancellation if any pop up and see what they say.

As you've rightly said, waiting is not very nice but you are not alone as our members have been through this process and hopefully some of them will be along soon to offer their support and advice.

In the mean time try to stay busy and fingers crossed all goes well at your next appointment.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
