Lletz treatment and now very worried

Hi all. Apologies in advance for the lengthy post, this is my first one. I am 41, married and a mother of one. I’ve had normal smears since I was 24 until the last one in October which showed moderate to high grade abnormalities. Had a colposcopy 2 weeks later during which the sonographer thought my cervix looked relatively healthy. He could only see a few white patches so he didn’t give me the lletz but took 2 biopsies. Results came back 5 weeks later showing CIN1. Huge relief. A week later a letter arrived from hospital saying they weren’t convinced by biopsy results due to the discrepancies in result so they retested my smear sample and again CIN 2 was confirmed. I Was invited for lletz which I had done yesterday. The procedure went smoothly except for a polyp which the nurse found and removed (she didn’t say anything about it just that it would be analysed). I was feeling relatively calm and positive until I stupidly googled lletz and polyps and worried myself sick as the stories I read weren’t reassuring. Also I googled symptoms of cervical cancer and it seemed I already have quite a few. I started bleeding mid cycle about a year ago (every month) which doctors dismissed as being part of hormonal changes after I turned 40. I occasionally bleed after sex but never had pain. But the most worrying one is that I started feeling a bladder weakness and an urge to urinate frequently about 2 months ago which I thought was due to me having a bad cold which had weakened me but this is actually not improving even though the cold was cured a month ago. I read that loss of bladder control can be caused by tumour growth putting pressure on the organs surrounding the cervix! But I thought tumours have to be really big for that to happen? And if so then couldn’t they see it during the colposcopy? Could a tumour have already spread to my bladder? Apologies for rambling but my mind has gone into overdrive and I don’t know how to stop it. The wait is going to be long and I just would appreciate some feedback or any words of support xxx

  • Hello Morjan78,

    Welcome to Cancer Chat.

It seems like googling has caused you to worry and overthink things, but please don't panic. You're doing everything right and you're yet to receive the results from the nurse about the polyps. While the doctors have said the bleeding may be down to hormonal changes, you should mention your recent bladder weakness next time, if they are not aware of it already. The important thing is not to worry and definitely don't go to Dr Google.

    Good luck with everything,
