Worrying about breast clinic

I went to the gps on monday after finding a solid lump in my right breast and i was expecting the gp to tell me it was a cyst and nothing to worry about or something of that nature, but with my mum having had cancer around age 45 and after the examination she said it was quiet hard and would need checking out in the next two weeks, with a scan and maybe a biopsy. im only 22 so this is really freaking me out as to whether it could be something serious because of my family history apparently something to do with the cancer that my mum had affecting some lymph nodes?? i rang up for my refferal appointment but they said there wasnt any appointments which has really confused me and they said that i will get a letter for an appointment by the 25th of febuary but thats 2 weeks from my apoointment so i cant see me being seen within the two weeks as the gp has said i need to? im not really sure what im asking i guess i sort of want to know what the likelyhood is of this being serious given my situation and whether or not its normal to ring up and them to not have any appointments? thanks for reading all this!

  • Hi,

your GP would have put you on the 2 week referral pathway, it will take time to load onto the system and perhaps given it’s only a couple of days since seeing your GP it isn’t showing up yet. Your GP cannot tell you what the lump is, they can only refer you to be scanned.

No one on here can tell what you may or may not have but there are many things that can cause hardness within the breast esp. on someone as young as you.

You have done the right thing my going to your GP and hopefully some ladies on here who have been through the process and came out the other end with the all clear will be in touch soon to offer reassurance. In the meantime try not to panic.
