Asbestos

I visited a friend who is renovating. There was significant dust - probably as they had been sanding.

What is causing concern is what was sanded and my fear they realised or may have realised asbestos fibres.

I am concerned primarily about contamination - having washed my clothes in the washing machine since - and of contamination of my car etc.

I have read that if clothes get asbestos fibres on them they should be bagged and binned. Likewise using a washing machine can spread fibres etc.

Not sure what if anything I should do next.

  • Hi Worri123,

If you are unsure were exposed to asbestos, or if your clothing has been contaminated I think it is advisable for you to contact your local council and speak to an asbestos officer who should be able to advise you further.

According to the Health and Safety Executive, short term exposure to asbestos will most likely have led to minimal exposure to fibres, and is very unlikely to have any long-term ill health effects. You can read more about this by clicking here

It's important to remember that most people have been exposed to low levels of asbestos, as it can be found in soil and air and yet few people become ill from it.

    Hope this helps,
