Chronic Sore Throat

Hi All,

Just after a bit of advice, I've had a sore throat (especially when swallowing) for nearly 4 months now. Been to the docs numerous times, had 2 complete full blood tests (for all sorts), ultra sound of the throat/glands and also seen an ENT specialist who put a camera down my throat. All of which came back fine... But still the pain is there. Good old aniexty is 0telling me it still must be something serious although with all the tests which have been done i should be confident there isn't.

So question is, has any one had a viral infection which wouldn't shift/go away. Or could the anxiety just be causing this all along?

Many thanks all in advance

  • I have had a chronic sore throat for 6 months. Some days it's extremely difficult to swallow and I constantly feel like I have something stuck in my throat. My GP did blood tests, all clear. I was given Omeprazole for suspected reflux, changed nothing. I have had 3 different courses of antibiotics to no avail and even been given Nystatin and Fluconazole incase of oral and esophageal thrush. Nothing has helped.

I've had a phone consultation with an ENT Consultant who suggested it may be GERD and to try Omeprazole again, along with Advanced Gaviscon,  it's not helping.

I have a wisdom tooth which has caused me issues in the past, I'm wondering if this is my problem! Literally worried sick and can't get in to hospital for a scope due to the Covid situation.

  • Hi Carey3

I am in exactly the same situation as you. started in Dec with the Throat deep rawness. and Nose Oct 19. and intermittent ear problems. 2 throat swabs negative. 2 courses of antibiotics. as I was under MAx FAX for mouth problems she prescribed Prednisolone for 4 weeks. slightly better came off and back to square one. ENT telephone apt. and double Lanzoperole and Gaviscon twice daily and nasal rinse twice a day. if no better in 6 weeks re-referral. did say I should have a camera down. supposed to have had apt today for tests that was arranged last Monday and the hospital cancelled it saying they would ring today with another apt. and today they rang and no apt have to have another telephone consultation. anything but put the camera down to see what is going on by the sound of it
