Hello I am 50 and have just recieved my smear result which said I had abnormal cells and had tested positive for HPV 16/18! My smear was overdue by 1 year which means 4 years since the last one!I have never had an abnormal smear before.  I have obviously read lots online but it has all sent me stupid! Am I more at risk because of my age? I have read that if HPV is found in an older women it could mean that is has been dormant for some time in which case it could be more severe! I have a colposcopy booked for 27th February but would be lying if I said I wasn't worried. Can anyone put my mind at rest?!
