Been dealing with ovarian cysts for a long time. Need help!

I don't know if anyone can help me or give me any advice. But here it goes, it all started last year around June when i was on the mini pill. i just come off it due to always bleeding on it and it not really suiting me. around this time when i had my withdrawal bleeding i noticed that i had a cramping sharp pain on my right side where my ovary is this happened at work and the pain would also go up through my back. i was admitted to hospital after coping a total of 4 days with the pain which i was doubled over in. i was finally admitted into hospital and they found a cyst on my right ovary which was around 3cm this had burst. after this i was discharged and put on painkillers to subdue the pain. i then when for another scan in August and another cyst was found on my left side at a total of 3cm. this was there for around January this year when i was admitted to hospital again with the same pain. at this time i went back onto the mini pill and i had been onit since July after my first cyst burst. the cyst on my left went away but they don't know whether it burst or not as the scan didnt show any fluid. however, it did show another cyst on the right ovary with a total of 3cm aswell. so i am currently dealing with a third cysts but i have so much pelvic pain where the cysts are and ive had this for ages now. it feels like a constant period or cramping pain. i have chosen to come off the mini pill as of yesterday. however, i went to see the gyneacologist and they said that it was bowel problems and nothing to do with my cysts. but i am still getting the pain even though im passing bowel movements. ive been on painkillers since june last year on and off and i just want it to go away now. but i have been recommended to go onto the mirena coil but i have heard that this causes ovarian cysts aswell so im quite torn on what to do next to get rid of these cysts once and for all. i would appreciate all help and advice as im just so stuck right now. im running out of options.

  • Welcome to the forum Liz.b although I'm sorry to read about all the trouble these cysts have been causing you.

If you're unsure about what to do it may be worth booking an appointment to talk your options through with your doctor so you can make sure you have all the information you need to figure out what to do next. You could even try getting a second opinion from a different doctor if you have more than one doctor working at your GP surgery.

Hopefully some of our members who have contended with similar issues will reply soon to offer their thoughts and advice but do give our cancer nurses a call if you'd like to talk to them about this as well. They are available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

    Kind regards,

  • I also had a lot of issues with ovarian cysts when I was younger - one burst and required emergency surgery and the other was operated on when it became 9 cm. I had some pain with the one that burst but had numerous cysts in between which did not cause me pain. I am surprised to hear that a mirena coil was suggested due to these causing ovarian cysts. I was put on the depo-provera injection as it was found that my cysts occurred through ovulation. The depo stopped me ovulating and I had no more cysts. I was on this for about 17 years in total. This may be worth considering unless you are trying to get pregnant. Hope this helps.
