Enlarged Lymph Node

Hello,

I'm 28 years old and i recently went for an appointment with my GP last Wednesday, as i have an enlarged lymph node in the side of neck which has been there for over 6 weeks.

The first thing the doctor done was put me in for a blood test on the following day and my on the Friday my results come back saying my bloods are fine.

Today i had my follow up appointment with the doctor, I explained that even though my bloods was fine, i was concerned that the lump was cancerous and that i would like to be referred for a scan to make sure that it's nothing to worry about and to put my mind at rest.

However the doctor said my referral wouldn’t be accepted based on the fact my bloods are fine and therefore is no reason to scan me.

Is the doctor correct in what they are saying and that the lump wouldn’t be anything sinister due to my bloods being fine, or am i correct in thinking that even though my bloods are fine, could it still be something serious and a scan is needed?

I'm not sure what to do next, I'm seriously considering paying for a private scan but should i just trust my doctors judgement?

I would def ask for a second opinion. I had a neck lump and went to the gp and before my bloods even came back he'd referred me for a scan

Hello,

Thanks you for getting back to me, how did you get on with your scan and was your blood results normal?
I think I will monitor the lump for a couple more weeks and either ask for a second opinion or maybe pay for a private scan.

Hi Jake,
If you’re not confident in the doctor’s assessment then it can’t hurt getting a second opinion imo?
I think the logic behind the blood tests is that enlarged lymph nodes, if due to cancer, tend to be related to blood cancers, in particular Lymphoma. That said lymph nodes enlarge because of infection, illness etc, not just cancer.
I believe that blood cancers have distinctive signatures or properties which are detectable through blood tests. I was diagnosed with Myeloma at 27 and that was detected via a blood test for something unrelated.

My bloods all cane back clear and the scan also but unfortuntely the lump is still here nearly a year later
Keep an eye and get a second opion if needed

I had same bloods fine so doctor sent me for chest scan all fine so then he sent me for altersound scan and fine needle biopsy of lymph node they found cancer from the biopsy
