Swollen lymph nodes

Hi,

I’m just a little concerned and curious about lymph nodes and wondering if anyone else has had the same.

ive had a problem with a swollen lymph node for around 6months,doctor originally gave me courses of antibiotics to see if it was up through infection after which he referred me to a ent consultant.who has now referred me for a scan and biopsy, which I have next week. I now have another two lymph nodes up- neck and shoulder- so have 3 . I am not I’ll in general but have been excessively tired, lack of energy, occasional night sweats, pain in chest and ribs and had a cough that won’t shift since xmas ( apparently chest is clear) I put most of this down to being anemic but wandering if it could all be linked.

Has anyone had this and how did results come back.

Thankyou.

  • Hello Concerned2,

I am sorry to hear you have been worried about your lymph nodes. It is good that you had these checked out by your doctor and it won't be long now before you have your scan next week.

Best of luck for next week I hope it all goes well for you.

I also hope that you will hear from others here who have had a similar experience and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

    Best wishes,

  • Just adding an update, I now have even more nodes come up and now on a 2ww for haemotology. So any information or other experiences would be greatly appreciated. What happens st this appointment?  Others outcomes from this? Etc

    thankyou

  • Sounds like I'm in the same position as you, I have had a swollen lymph node in my neck since Feb 2018, and my tonsil on the opposite side is also larger than the other. It's been palmed off as tonsillitis for over a year now. But last appointment, when I finally got to see my actual GP, he asked how long this had been going on. I said over a year and he looked a little shocked and  referred me to ENT. I have my appointment on Monday. I'm just worried as Feb 2018 was just an unexplained swollen node and one swollen tonsil, but this has now progressed and I'm tired all the time, neck and Lower back aches, pain in chest and have lost a bit of weight. (Although hard to tell as this all started 3 monghs after I had my first born). I'm trying not panic but finding it tough, especially with a 14m old to look after. The waiting is killing me, I probably went to the doctors a handful of times in my whole life prior to Feb 2018 and I've pretty much matched that number since! Don't think I get taken seriously as where this all started just after my little one was born, think they have been putting it down to post partum depression and anxiety. Ive had so long to prepare myself for what gets found that it wouldn't be a shock if it is cancer, I'm more worried as to what stage it is at (if cancer), as it's been left for over a year...

  • Hi Chonie, I’m pretty much in the same situation as you. I found a lump in my neck under my hairline, also been there a year but GP didn’t seem concerned till February. I also had my first child she’s 2 in 2 months. I had breast cancer in 2013 so concerned it’s come back, I have a biopsy and ultrasound tomorrow, so will soon find out. Don’t be to concerned about how long it’s there, cancers can be there for a few years but be slow growing. I was told my breast cancer was there at least 2 and a half years that was in 2013, had all clear last year but obviously concerned about this new lump. There’s so many reasons why neck lymph nodes come up and never going down which aren’t cancer. I hope you get your answers soon xx

  • Hello hun, I know it’s hard but do try not to worry too much- though I totally understand this as I’m the worst worrier ever. Yes that sounds very similar to me, I had ent appointment and scan but they never took biopsy due to risk of damage where they are and I have other ones they can take from. But I have now been referred on a 2ww to haemotology. So now got to wait until the 16th for that- I Just seem to being coming up with new lymph nodes that won’t go down a lot. As for symptoms I have been the same lack off energy, chest pain, abdominal pain and occasional night sweats. My daughter is 15months, I’m now a lot less than what I was before I was pregnant at first everyone just seemed to think it was just the baby weight I was losing. It can be hard, especially with a young child, but just stay strong, you will get your answers soon, let me know how you get on Monday, though my first appointment with ent was a quick chat, felt the nodes and referral- just be sure to tell them all your symptoms, I didn’t at first and when I did was told it wasn’t the place I should be as I had more than just the one node in more than one are xx hope all goes well for you xx

  • Thank you for your reply Coz7 ... Great to hear you got the all clear for breast cancer! I really hope this new lump turns out to be nothing sinister and that all goes well for you tomorrow! Ive been counting down the days to my appointment on Monday, keep trying to tell myself though that im not going to get answers at my first appointment,  the waiting is the worst... Keep us posted! Xx

  • Hey!! I'm 6kg lighter than I was before I had my little one, so it's hard to tell whether I've just lost the baby weight (and then some) or whether it's for a more sinister reason...  My diets been pretty terrible to be honest, so I wasn't expecting to lose as much as I have... I have had a few new nodes come up in the last few weeks, they aren't as massive as the main one I was concerned about, but they are all in the neck region... Worried there's more I haven't found elsewhere though due to the constant lower back pains I'm getting... I'll keep you updated on how Monday goes! Hope all goes well on the 16th! If you ever want to vent I'm here, as I know how your feeling! I've accepted your friend request :) Atleast we have little ones to keep us busy with all this waiting I suppose!

  • Oh bloody hell, it’s mad ain’t it. I found my weight didn’t shift much for months then all of a sudden baby weight and more went. I am now trying my best not to even feel for more as it’s not worth panicking more about until I have my appointment. Mines both sides of neck, shoulder  and between armpit/boob kind of area. Felt like I was going mad at first had kept asking others just to check I wasn’t imagining them. But yes I will keep you updated and you with me. Thanks hun, same as if ever you want to chat just message :) try to not panic too much in meantime. Yes the babies certainly help keep our minds occupied right now, also the reason we worry more xx

  • Hi Chonie, thanks. The biopsy wasn’t to bad, glad it’s over with. My results Should hopefully be in within the next 3 days, they’ve given me an appointment anyway for Friday but she said they will call and cancel if it isn’t in by then. Will keep you updated, hope your appointment went well and there is good news for you soon xx

  • Hi Chonie939,

I have been reading your posts and feel I am in a similar position to you. I have a neck lump that has been looked at by numerous GPs, and Ive been told its nothing to worry about, but i AM worried. It's hard not to. To me, it doesnt feel moveable and it feels hard. I noticed the swelling/lump on the right hand side of my neck originally about a year or so ago now. I dont have any infection or illness and cat see a reason why my lympth node should be swollen. Ive still had no scans despite asking, until 2 weeks ago I went back to the GP upset and demanded an ENT app (I, like you, previously felt like they just saw me as a hyperchondriac), which I have now booked for three weeks time. I've rang a few times asking for cancellations to be seen sooner, but with no luck. The wait is horrible! Recently I have been experiencing some symptoms that have really worried me inc. a feeling of something being sort of stuck in my throat which has reduced my appetite, neck aches, tiredness and jaw discomfort. Im 27 and incredibly worried. I wondered if you could let me know how your ENT app went? I hope youre OK!
