Anyone else sore after Colonoscopy?

Hey everyone!

i had a colonoscopy last Sunday (1week ago). Has anyone else felt tender in the bowel/abdomen region afterwards? I feel bruised or tender when bending over etc?!

It’s not getting worse or anything, I just want to know if anyone has had a similar experience?

It was a painful colonoscopy so I’m not sure if this was a factor?

  • Hello

I realise that your question is a few years old now and so I'm hoping you are much improved, or at least discovered the reason for your symptoms.

I'm responding as I had a colonoscopy a few days ago and I have dull aching in my lower abdomen.  My procedure took an hour and was extremely painful at times (good old drugs helped a bit though).  This is because ladies who have had a hyterectomy are more likely to have 'looping'... which I had in 2009....and it is more diffiuclt to get the camera around.

I guess it makes sense that anything invasive like this, is going to take a few days to recover but I too would like ot know if this is 'the norm'.  It's not always easy to go back and ask questions after you have been discharged and a GP may not know the answer.

    All the best

  • I know this is an old thread, but I had a colonoscopy yesterday, normal apart from diverticulitis, but the pain I have is much higher up than where that is. The doctor didn't even come and see me after. Did you get a follow up as I still have pain but not sure if they are going to investigate further?!

  • I'm always sore after colonocopies. After 14 now! I know what to expect- feeling bruised, sore , bloated ,blood with first and maybe 2nd bowel movement. For me it passes after 4 to 10 days depending on how many polyps removed ( 17 was not good ,4 okish) and the endoscopist- some definitely better than others!. I've had a right hemi colectomy and I think adhesions from surgery make things worse. Last colonoscopy was yesterday and I feel like someone punched me in the abdomen v hard. . Sleeping on left hand side helps as does eating a fairly bland diet for awhile. Tbh best thing is to try not to worry you've just had a very invasive procedure and our colon doesn't like it !
