Anyone else sore after Colonoscopy?

Hey everyone!

i had a colonoscopy last Sunday (1week ago). Has anyone else felt tender in the bowel/abdomen region afterwards? I feel bruised or tender when bending over etc?!

It’s not getting worse or anything, I just want to know if anyone has had a similar experience?

It was a painful colonoscopy so I’m not sure if this was a factor?

  • Had colonoscopy yesterday , did several biopsies and a hot loop polypectomy on the left side , feel so bloated ( but gas all gone!!) and the pain on the left side is awful , I'm taking co- codamol and buscopan which gives me some relief. Am so scared of my first poop so eating very little the spasms when they come make me feel nauseous , I feel so miserable as I'm supposed to be back at work Monday

  • Hi,

I am in the same position at the moment. Had a colonoscopy (and gastroscopy) two days ago and the following day after the procedure I have had awful left sided flank pain! Today the pain is more concentrated in the mid left side of my stomach.  Can anyone kindly tell me how long this pain lasted for them?  I am rather worried as my cat startled me the morning after my procedure and I moved rather quickly and since then the pain has been bad.

    Thank you.

  • When I had my first Colonoscopy, which was very uncomfortable, and they removed a 20mm polyp, I had  sharp pains and discomfort in the area it had been removed from, and blood in my stools for about two weeks after, but it did get better after that. I would defo go back to your doctor consultant if it's not significantly better be after two weeks though.

  • Hi - Did your pain subside on it's own?

I had Colonscopy 5 days ago. I had nausea following day which went the day after. Yesterday I had the mid left flank pain you have - it is about one hand length wide (8 inches) and continues into today. It is persistent dull ache. Pharmacist told me to take 2 paractemol every few hours and to go back to medical team and / or GP if it didn't improve in 2/3 more days. I think I will have to tough it out. I had one small (3mm) Polyp removed and diagnosed with diverticulosis but that is a different kind of pain (when the diverticula get inflamed etc.)

  • In similar position. I had a colonoscopy 5 days ago nd and am still in considerable pain. Took a biopsy, no bleeding although I am on blood thinners and expected it. My concern is that I have had many colonoscopies, due to family history, but never, ever, had pain like this afterwards. The pain isn't even the side of the biopsy. Not a blockage as bowels working, albeit not properly. This is the first time I have had sedation, but was awake and watched as before. I'm wondering if with the pain drug they are not quite as gentle as when we don't have sedation, just a thought. Anyone struggling with pain still severe after 5 days? I would appreciate knowing, I'm beginning to get worried now and thinking about perforation. Thank you.

  • I also had colonoscopy with sedation and removal of polyp on Monday 24th .Next day bowels opened as normal no bleeding but was expecting it as also on blood thinner.Yesterday felt nauseous mild ache left side and lower tummy .Today same just feel bit spaced out but good to read others are having same problems. Was told there and then polyp was benign .Everything I eat my tummy swells so walking around with jeans undone.

  • I also think you are right about not being as gentle when you have sedation, it was so traumatic I was watching on screen trying to embrace it but they kept sedating me and being more rough they was so busy rushing me around to get sorted quickly I didn't even see Anyone after to go through side effects exc. I'm slightly worried because I'm in a lot of pain in my right side they took biopsy's at all corners apparently, after reading your comments I see that blood in stool is normal so had given me piece of mind. I've tried to contact doctors but they haven't got back to me I had this on Saturday and is now Wednesday

  • I had a flexible sigmoidoscopy on Friday morning (3 days ago) and I still have cramps.

I was unsedated but they took 2 biopsies.

It doesn't feel severe as they say but it feels like I've done 100 sit ups.

How long did it take for it to wear off I get married next week

Really want to be done with it.

I rested all weekend but have to work this week

  • Hi I had 4 large pulips and 10 biopsys removed from my bowel yesterday.  The pain today is still there like I am bruised or something. Bending is a struggle. I have 6 large pulips left to remove and they marked them with ink to see growth. On the write up they called them pre-cancerous. I am very worried. Anybody else think I am over thinking this. I will have to go back to get the others removed. Thanks

  • I had colonoscopy 7 weeks ago & im still having unbearable pain,I went back to the unit after 4 days,Saw a trainee doc ,not that interested, after a   Six hour wait ,nurse gave me a packet of codiene, which I'm not able to take,Day 12 into hospital where I spent 4 days ,where I had lots of iv antibiotics & paracetamol via drip ,Have visited my GP twice ,Now at 7 weeks since procedure,I've booked in to see a private consultant,I do feel it's the only way to sort this out ,as I have no life at the moment ,I had 5 polyps removed ,one was difficult on the end of a diverticulitis pouch,I've rang the consultants secretary twice ,who tells me he's booked up for 6 weeks & its phone calls only ,disgusting.
