Worried

I just wanted to say hi really,  I went to the GP 2 weeks ago thinking at worst I had piles.  GP examined and said it wasn’t and did a sample that came back high for calprotectin but not outrageously so. (237 upper limit 50)  every thing else normal as far as bloods.  As I have a family history ofcolitis and crohns I wa referred as urgent to gastro who looked and then referred me under the 2 week wait for colonoscopy which is on Feb 13.  I’m terrified as  I don’t have any symptoms at all to suggest IBD and I’ve pretty much convinced myself it’s going to be bad news.  Do you think it could still be piles?

  • Hi there Houseboat123.  Actually it could still be piles.  I only know this because I looked up the NHS website for another poster which told me that colonoscopies are sometimes carried out for piles examinations (or indeed other things that are not as serious as you fear).  I don't pretend to know much about them personally as I am fortunate in that I have never needed to go to my GP with piles but just thought I would mention this bit of information.   So don't panic; take things as they come.  Best wishes.  Annie
