Worried!!

Hi everyone, I’m 23 and recently (the past 2 weeks) I have been suffering with sickness but only of a night time, I have had blood in my stools and also been having a horrible tummy ache and headache of any evening. I have been feeling very tired and I just don’t feel myself. I’m sorry worried I may have bowel cancer. I have been googling symptoms and it’s confirming my worries I know it’s not the right thing to do but!! I am going to the Drs first thing on Monday just wondered if anyone has had any symptoms like this before? I know it’s more likely if your 50+ but that don’t mean to say it can’t happen. I’m just worried sick.

Thank you all x

  • Hey there,

At your age my children's dad had similar. He was very unwell with those symptoms for a while. Eventually it turned out that the blood in his stools and sickness was food poisoning which lingered for ages and it ran into glandular fever which explained the tiredness and headaches etc.... He was a fighting fit fireman and it completely knocked him off his feet for months. It's brilliant that you already booked an appointment. Make sure you tell the doctor of your worries, don't feel daft for worrying and googling because we all do it! I myself had a few scares around your age too, I had a lump under my arm, my white cells went down to 0.3 and they're meant to be between 2 and 10, a few things happened and I was absolutely petrified but each time I was ok and I'm still here! I feel for you because the anxiety that sets in is unbearable when youre worried but look up relaxation techniques, try a few because as simple as it sounds even deep breathing will calm you. Chatting here really helps too because everyone is so supportive.

I hope that helps a bit! Other's will be along soon to help too, I'm sure. Take care.

    Xxxxxx

  • I’ve had your symptoms and it turned out to be diverticulitis.

its good you’re going to see your GP, best to go to someone who will be able to have not only your medical history but also examine you rather than rely on Dr Google. The latter is a sure fire way to stoke up anxiety.

I’m not keen on symptom checkers either but if you want to go there then this one is professionally verified www.haveigotbowelcancer.com/

you will see the stats if you go through ‘more on bowel symptoms’ showing your symptoms can be a sign of something else.

Try not to worry too much and good luck with your appointment on Monday.
