Is it normal to wait 4 months for diagnosis?

Hello my little boy (4 yo) has suspected lymphoma, we had a 2week referral from the gp and we have done some tests. Still awaiting an ultrasound appointment but have today received a letter with an appointment for 29th May with the peadiatric doctor. Is it really reasonable to make us wait 4 months for a diagnosis?? Is this normal?

  • Hello Traveller_D,

    Welcome to Cancer Chat.

All suspected cancer referrals should have a maximum waiting time of two weeks. This is explained in more detail on the NHS website under the heading "Maximum Waiting Times for Urgent Cancer Referrals". I'd suggest you go back to your GP and query the appointment date, because you shouldn't have to wait that long.

I hope this helps and all the best to you and your son.
