Limboland

Hi all. I'm new to the group and going out of my mind right now. Me and my husband came back from our hols in August with terrible chest infections. I was coughing up blood, he wasn't.  My infection eventually cleared up but his lingered. He got a GP appointment but had to wait 6 weeks. They sent him for an xray then he got a phone call from the gp to say don't worry-it's not cancer, you've still got an infection, and was given antibiotics for 5 days. He perked up but the antibiotics had run out. He rang the gp and, after 4 days of them faffing around, was sent another prescription for another 5 day course. He felt better again but the antibiotics ran out again and he got worse. He then had a follow up xray and was told then that he had to go for a blood test and ct scan.  No explanation given as to why.  Then we got a phone call from a Macmillan nurse telling him he had a lung lesion and abnormal lymph glands and had to go for an EBUS biopsy, PET scan and breathing test. He's had all these now and have a date for the results next Tuesday at the Macmillan Cancer Care unit at our local hospital. No explanation has been given as to why that department. Does this mean he definitely has cancer? The wait is agonising and can't stop crying. He is a smoker and I'm thinking the odds of it not being cancer are looking pretty slim.

  • Hi Jcv and welcome to the forum although I'm sorry to read about your husband's situation.

Sadly no-one here can you tell you what this means but luckily you don't have too much longer to go now until you find out the results.

Being in limboland is very tough but you're not alone as many of our members have also found themselves in this position and hopefully some of them will reply soon to offer their support and share their experiences with you.

If you have some free time tomorrow you're more than welcome to give our cancer nurses a call. You can contact them on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

Wishing you and your husband all the best for Tuesday.

    Kind regards,
