High risk HPV

i had a smear jan 2018 and was told not enough cells were collected and to book in again. But I then got pregnant but I recently lost my baby at 21 weeks. I then went to get my smear done and the nurse said “so they recalled you back a year later due being positive for high risk HPV. No abnormal cells. I am so scared and annoyed that one I wasn’t told

I’m scared of my new results and keep thinking the worst things. Also on some Facebook support pages people say even with normal smear but positive fir HPV they get referee for a closer look at the cervix! Can anyone shed any words of wisdom! X

  • Hi Flower30,

My sincere sympathies on the recent loss of your little baby.

I’ve had 5 Pap smears since December 2016 and three of them came back positive for abnormal cells, but I am HPV Negative. Even so, my family physician referred me to a OBGYN Specialist for an assessment and a Colposcoy. My Colp was all clear, but she wants to keep a close eye on me regardless because of the abnormal cells which keep reappearing on my paps. I’m scheduled for another Colp this coming May and just had one in December.

You didn’t mention if you’ve ever seen a Specialist or if you’ve had a Colpsocpy, but if you have a second positive Pap smear they will likely be referred for one.  I understand the anxiety because I am dealing with it myself. The waiting thing is terrible on us emotionally. Hoping you will be okay. Regards!
