Concerned regarding false negative

I have been getting alot of symptoms for pancreatic cancer or pancreatitis.  I have back pain persistent, some abdo pain, pain after eating, pain after drinking alcohol any amount, the pain has been focussed on my left side but now feels like it's spreading to my right side where my liver is.  I have had nause, some vomitting, fatigue and massive anxiety.  I have had blood tests, ultrasound and CT so far and all have come back clear but I have heard (on social media) that alot of people's pancreatic cancer was not picked up even after 3 CTs and MRIs and whatever else.  But i'm at a loss as to the struggle with my daily symptoms if it's not that as the pain is definitely pancreas pain and as i haven't had acute pancreatitis before, I very much doubt i have chronic pancreatitis, can anyone help at all or suggest what I should ask for when I go to see the gastroenterologist who is next on my list.  Many thanks,

  • Hello CST21,

I am sorry you have been in so much pain recently but it's good it's all being investigated and you must be reassured that your blood tests, ultrasound and CT have all come back clear. Try not to worry too much about what you read online or on social media as often only the most unlikely worst case scenarios will be reported and it is easy then to believe that what you read online also applies to your situation when it may not be at all relevant. So avoid looking things up on the internet if you can - I know it is easier said than done but often it only exacerbates our anxiety.

The experts will be in the best position to tell you exactly what it might be so you are doing the right thing in seeing a gastroenterologist. I hope you find out more very soon.

I hope you will get some tips from some of our members who have been in a situation before and that they will have some suggestions on what to ask the gastroenterologist.

    Best wishes,
