Low grade dyskaryosis & hpv positive 2nd colposcopy

Hi everyone,

I had had my first smear test in May 2018 and the results came back that I had low grade dyskaryosis and hpv positive. I got referred for a Colposcopy in July 2018, they said I had a few abnormal cells but they didn’t need to take a biopsy just come back in 12 months which will be May 2019 from my first smear.

The problem is I’m going to New Zealand next month for a maximum of 12 months and don’t know when in the 12 months I will be back.

Ive spoke to my GP and Hospital to try and get in next month but because it hasn’t been 12 months they won’t see me. I’m just worried that if I leave it longer than 12 months the cells could have progressed.

New Zealand has no free healthcare for appointments like that even on insurance so I would have to pay for a colposcopy and await results. I don’t mind paying at all for peace of mind but I’m not sure if i will have an address to even get my results and if it’s worth waiting until I’m back.

I just wondered if anyone else’s has had a similar experience as I’m not really sure what to do.

    Hello. I had a smear saying the same as you back in 2014.back then the rules were different. You were retested after 6months. If it showed anything off to colposcopy.anyway mine was clear,so retest 6 months later.anyway 6 months on smear showed Lowgrade changes. Colpolscpy 12 weeks later. Biopsy showed low grade with HPV. Retest 12months later. Smear showed again low grade changes with hpv.sent to colpolscpy again. Was told changes were getting better from the year before and back on three years. I guess what I'm saying is these changes take years and years to turn into anything sinister and back then they left you to see if your body could heal it not send you straight to colpolscpy. I would personally pay for private smear and go from there. I think results would only take a few weeks just to put your mind at rest so you can enjoy your travelling and go back to nhs testing when your home. I just thought I'd let you know my story regarding my low grade changes. Most changes do go back to normal.also they will test you a year from your colposcopy date and not your smear.     Thanks so much for replying. I’m such a worrier anyway so know it will be on my mind when it comes to the 12 months. I think I will just pay for a smear over there if I can.
