Should I be concerned?

Hi, this is my first post and would like some advice please.

Just after Christmas my left lymph node swelled up in my left  breast and my breast was slightly painful underneath,  I thought nothing of it as I was due for a period any day. I had my period and they lymph node continued to cause discomfort. overtime my neck, collarbone, armpit and breast node on the left have been swollen, I've even had one in the left groin and left elbow area all on the left side. I also have pain on the left side of chest, arm and shoulder blade, I have had no symptoms of cold, flu or infections but they continued to be swollen but sometimes it seems it goes on and off. I called 111 as I had these bad chest pains that travelled down my left arm, they referred me to a&e and was given an ECG, all clear. I then went to their G.p and he said he could definitely feel node in my neck and to go back to my g.p for blood tests and possible ultrasound. Pain in chest continues went to g.p and she just gave me antibiotics saying I've probably got an infection. Took antibiotics and no change so went to my local nurse and explained everything in which she referred me for inflammatory blood tests and full blood count. She said even if normal she wants me to book back in with Dr and ask for a breast clinic referral. Been told all bloods are clear and no need for further action .

Still have lymph node pain and swelling on left side neck, collarbone and arm and discomfort in chest, shoulder and arm and sometimes under the left breast and will be into the 3rd week now.

Do I go back and ask for the referral? I know at my age different hormones with play havoc with the body. I don't bother Googling as I know the big C word will come up and then all sorts of emotions happen. I've had pain in breast nodes before which are normally linked to my periods but never had these other ones before and the symptoms that go with it.

Could I have some advice please?

  • Hi, do you mind me asking you what your outcome was. I have just had a fast track referral to get the exact same thing looked at.
    I am so scared

  • Hi Everyone,

I have just started with exactly these symptoms of shoulder blade ache, neck ache, pain under left breast, agony after movement of left arm. I hope I am allowed to mention this but mine is since my covid vaccine and I found this web site investigating the lymph node side effects. GPs , Paramedics just say it will go and I need physio. I had immediate jaw, neck pain within minutes of vaccine and then had immediate skin rash down arm, across back and up neck. I am pondering that my lymph nodes are not happy and so thank you for letting me just mention that it is obvious to us all our lymph nodes are causing this indescribable pain. Hope you are all getting good outcomes and everyones symptoms sub side.

  • Hi Halliwell,

I discovered mine on the day I had my vaccine but 6 weeks it is still there, still have terribly itchy skin all over. I have now had all my bloods done including screening for blood cancer which all came back negative. I am booked in for Thursday this week to have an ultrasound and biopsy to the supraclavicular node.
I will try and remember to update the results, just give me a nudge if I forget.

I hope you get to the bottom of yours :)

  • Hi Tassie,

Thank you so very much for responding to me. I am very grateful. Good Luck on Thursday and it is kind of you to allow me to ask how you get along.

Take care and fingers crossed you get a resolution.

  • I dont know if you will get this as its past two years from the post but..

ive also recently found a lump on my left breast lymph node pain from my left chest to my shoulder blade also a swollen lymph in my left neck ive been referred to brest specialist for next week to be checked over  l reading your post i felt i had to reach out to ask how you are now and if you ever had a dignosis of what this may be thanks

  • Hi,

I was having left shoulder blade pain and left breast chest wall pain around 18mknths ago. Was concerned as though I couldn't find a lump I had read an infection I had been tested positive for and has some treatment was linked tobreast cancer.

It is the bacteria bartonella, alongside Lyme caught from a tick. It causes lymph node swelling, pain fatigue, sore throat, can affect the nervous system abd heart too. It can be pretty nasty.

The imaging came back clear and I was told that the pain in my chest wall could be Chondritis which is rub muscular pain.

I thought no more of it and lived with the ongoing discomfort and shoulder blade pain when it occurred - which wasn't constant.

Fast forward to now and am currently 18days post birth of my son and have a growth in my left inner breast/chest wall area. A hard lump of that feels like it is attached to my chest wall.

It doesn't seem to be a blocked milk duct from breast feeding as it isn't getting smaller and is right against my chest wall. Have been referred urgently but unfortunately locally the Brest cancer screening service is in crisis and so urgent referrals aren't being seen in usual 2 week window but rather waiting more than 4 weeks.

The lump has grown very quickly and the shoulder blade pain is back too. Am worried as bartonella can mimic breast canceee symptoms by causing swelling of lymph nodes. This country has very poor testing fir bartonella, despite it being present here and treated on our pets by vets. If you have it go to your heart the valves can be tested for DNA of it as it can cause endocarditis. But in terms of blood serology and culturing we don't have a gold standard test for humans in the UK anymore.

I am trying to get a private ultrasound but even they have a wait as they are dealing with all the people the NHS cannot.

Hoping it is something benign and not bartonella or cancer. However, if it is bartonella and I could get an accurate diagnosis in the UK then it can be treated with suitable IV antibiotics. But I am concerned that even if it is bartonella the NHS will be unable to detect it potentially as they don't have great testing for this and don't consider things that are non standard. Really hope it isn't cancer obviously.

woukd be interested to know how the lady that posted about her lymph nodes being up is now? If a per owner and /or ever been bitten by a tick consider bartonella as swollen lymph nodes is a signature of this infection - which can be difficult to shift once it has gone system wide as it has multiple forms - much like TB or syphilis so can require prolonged antibiotic treatment.
