Should I be concerned?

Hi, this is my first post and would like some advice please.

Just after Christmas my left lymph node swelled up in my left  breast and my breast was slightly painful underneath,  I thought nothing of it as I was due for a period any day. I had my period and they lymph node continued to cause discomfort. overtime my neck, collarbone, armpit and breast node on the left have been swollen, I've even had one in the left groin and left elbow area all on the left side. I also have pain on the left side of chest, arm and shoulder blade, I have had no symptoms of cold, flu or infections but they continued to be swollen but sometimes it seems it goes on and off. I called 111 as I had these bad chest pains that travelled down my left arm, they referred me to a&e and was given an ECG, all clear. I then went to their G.p and he said he could definitely feel node in my neck and to go back to my g.p for blood tests and possible ultrasound. Pain in chest continues went to g.p and she just gave me antibiotics saying I've probably got an infection. Took antibiotics and no change so went to my local nurse and explained everything in which she referred me for inflammatory blood tests and full blood count. She said even if normal she wants me to book back in with Dr and ask for a breast clinic referral. Been told all bloods are clear and no need for further action .

Still have lymph node pain and swelling on left side neck, collarbone and arm and discomfort in chest, shoulder and arm and sometimes under the left breast and will be into the 3rd week now.

Do I go back and ask for the referral? I know at my age different hormones with play havoc with the body. I don't bother Googling as I know the big C word will come up and then all sorts of emotions happen. I've had pain in breast nodes before which are normally linked to my periods but never had these other ones before and the symptoms that go with it.

Could I have some advice please?

  • Hi, did you ever get to the bottom of your symptoms? I too have an unusual mix & feel in limbo where to go next. I’m awaiting a head MRI but that’s only because I paid privately for a consultation - I feel so fobbed off by my gp who keeps suggesting it’s anxiety. Xx

  • Hi, I was referred to Lymphoma clinic and then sent for several blood tests and a contrast CT scan. I am now awaiting my second appointment with clinic on the 18/04/19. I did call to ask about scan and they said they did see lymph nodes on scan, nurse said they were insignificant (not large enough to be concerned) so will probably discharge me.

She did say that MDT have not looked at bloods yet so will have to wait until  appointment.

Since seeing them a month ago I now have on/off throat  and ear pain on left only, chesty cough and discomfort still on left side of neck and supraclavicular area. I still get pain in neck after drinking alcohol and feel a lump feeling when swallowing.

Don't get me wrong I will certainly be releaved to not have Lymphoma but I know something is not right and just want some answers.

I've been a professional vocalist for over 25 years and have had many throat disorders including nodules so I am very familiar with lymph node pain and swelling but this is nothing I've experienced before and obviously feel concerned for my health and my career.

I will update on here after my clinic appointment on Thursday.

It can be very frustrating when you know your own body but some Drs dismiss that. I've been taking pictures of the swelling on my neck over the past 4 months, I think this helped the Drs see that I wasn't imagining things.

Good luck with you MRI. xx

  • Hey, I’m sorry only just replying, I’m also sorry to hear you still don’t have any concrete answers to what’s wrong. It must be beyond frustrating now. I hope your appointment on the 18th goes well, I hope your managing to stay positive even when it’s taking so long. I know all these tests and appointments can be scary, for me it was the waiting and you’ve had more than enough of that. I really hope you get your much needed answers soon! I wish you all the best and again I’m really sorry for the late reply!

  • Hi [@Songbirdali]‍ how was your appointment? Any closer to getting any answers? Xx

  • MDT discussed- CT no significant adenophathy- subcentimetre largest node 1.2cm cervical. Bio serology negative. Was going to discharge me but I said that I still have strong symptoms of fatigue,  left neck swelling and discomfort in neck and left collarbone. Now I have a swollen left tonsil and a ugly. ulcer behind it. Went to my G.p and has given me antibiotics and steroids for my chest as I'm very wheezy and coughing for a while.

Been signed off for another week from work as the fatigue is overwhelming and I've fallen asleep in class at one point. I spoke to consultant secretary and the Consultant called me today. I told her about how I'm still struggling and in pain and something in my throat just doesn't feel right,  especially left side of the windpipe. She has suggested I finish the tablets and if 4 to 5 days I don't feel any better to go back to G.P and be referred to ENT and have a camera. In the meantime I'm back at the Lymphoma clinic in June and if still not better and Lymph nodes are still causing trouble they will assess and keep an eye on it.

    sorry for the late reply.

  • Hi Ali,

Sorry for such a late response, I am sorry you are still experiencing so much discomfort, how are you feeling after finsihing the antibiotics?

  • Yes ask for a referral for persistant lymph node swelling,(lymphadenopathy). It could be something minor like a viral infection or something more serious so always best to get it properly investigated, especially if it's painful, with more tests x

  • Hi,

I know this discussion was last year, but I'm suffering with similar symptoms with lymph nodes on my left side and severe neck, left shoulder and arm pain, as well as left ear pressure and pain with some tinnitus,  a sore throat, night sweats and I am also suffering with severe fatique  and dizziness. I have had a number of tests done and finally had a CT scan after over a year of pain and problems, with it getting worse these past few months. They found that not only did I have raised lymphs nodes in the left side of my neck, but I also have enlarged tonsils and prominent nasopharyngeal soft tissue. So I'm due to have a surgical biopsy done on them in 3-4 weeks time, not definite on exact date yet.

So, I was just wondering if you had had any further tests or results back since last year? And if you ever got to the bottom of your problems? As I'm worried if nothing is found from the biopsy, that I'll have to continue suffering with all this pain and other horrendous symptoms, without them getting to the bottom of it.

I hope you can help me, and I hope you are safe and well. And that they were able to get to the bottom of your problems and treat them successfully! :)

  • Hi,

I'm interested in reply's to your symptoms as I'm suffering exactly the same all on left side.

Even get pain under my left ribs (spleen area) woke me up this morning at 4 am.

I had had a few alcoholic drinks, I never normally drink. Only had 5 from 5pm till 10am, so not a lot tbh. And instantly felt pain in my neck, shoulder and spleen area.

Seen by gp 2 weeks ago, put on antibiotics for sore throat, she felt my neck, felt small pea sized lump on left, now awaiting ultrasound scan.

Lump in throat left side, sore left side neck, feel like I have a load of marbles in my neck, fatigued, loss of hearing, ear pain.

    This is since April!!

I hope you get to the bottom of your symptoms xx

    Take care x

  • Hello,

Im also interested in the responses to the above symptoms? I am suffering with exactly the same. Swollen nodes on left side. Neck, left armpit, swollen upper left abdomen and left side groin pain.

I have a strong history of cervical, gallbladder and renal cancer on my mothers side.
I constantly feel tired and achey. Unfortunately, I've done myself no favours and am constantly on google

I would be really interested in knowing all your outcomes.
    thank you
