Waiting for breast biopsy result

Hi

I had a breast biopsy and mammogram done last week and have spent the last 6 days in complete fear of the results. After the biopsy and mammogram I was called back into a room with the doctor and a bcn to be told the mammogram was very worrying as the mass looked highly suspicious. As a 42 year old mother of 2 I have been beside myself with worry it’s been with me 24/7 and anxiety levels through the roof!

Today I got my results (I was literally crying on the way into doctors room) it’s not breast cancer, it’s a Fibroadenoma. I wanted to share this so that anyone going through this awful time can see suspicious lumps don’t always mean cancer. I also want to wish everyone good luck whatever their outcome xx

  • Thanks Harvell what a brilliant site,so comforting have someone who knows exactly how you feel xx

    Hi Jane,

What you describe is typical of a first hospital visit. I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer and on both occasions, I saw the consultant, had the 3 tests and was then brought back to see the consultant and breast care nurse.

I am sorry to hear that they found a lump and not the cyst your doctor initially expected. This is still not the end. Only 1 person in 10 who are referred to the breast clinic turn out to have cancer.

Have they given you an appointment to get your results yet?

I sincerely hope that it all turns out well. Please let us know how you get on, Remember that we are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jane

I was given the ultrasound as a lump was found in my left breast on my first mammogram, the person doing the scan checked my under arm as well.  Then after saying this is a solid lump not a cyst a few minutes later about 4 biopsys were taken and I was told they had no way of knowing what the outcome may be until the results came back, even though I questioned them.

The appointment to go back was a week later and I was terrified  so I know how you feel.  Everyone was either telling me I'd be fine or telling me stories about their friends illnesses - none of which helps when even the doctors don't know yet what it may be.

I'm self employed so I wasn't given a sick note, so I don't know if that is just standard procedure.

I was lucky that I was told in the end it was a benign tumor and although I needed surgery straight away, I was still relieved.

I hope you get a good result, and wish you well at this worrying time

Let us know how you get on xx

  • Hi all off for my biopsy results this afternoon and I am absolutely terrified! I just feel so negative about it all.can you keep your fingers crossed for me please, need all positive vibes I can get xxx

  • How did you get on this afternoon?? X

  • Thanks [@Sazcop]‍ for sharing. My appt is

booked for tues and I was preparing myself that a bad scan and need for biopsy would mean it was likely bad news.

    I would have been terrified.

    So thank you again xx

  • Hi Pisces

Glad the post has helped you a bit, nothing takes the worry away but it’s easy to let our minds think the worst. I think if they can’t confirm it’s a cyst they do the scan and biopsy just to rule out anything sinister but I was the same as you, thinking this can’t be good!

I really hope you get good news on Tuesday, statistics are on your side and whatever the outcome there’s some lovely people on here that have been and are going through the worst so you won’t be alone.

Please let us know how you get on.

Take care and good luck xx

  • Hi Jane

  • Thank you for this post [@Sazcop]‍, so pleased for you. I am also waiting for my biopsy result and was told during my ultrasound that the lump in my breast looks ‘suspicious’. Have been crying on and off ever since but trying to hide my anxiety from my 3 year old. Your post has made me feel more hopeful.

    Hi,

Welcome to the forum. I am so sorry to hear of all the worry that you've had since you had your biopsy. I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer in the past 10 years and was also told that my lumps were 'suspicious' on both occasions.

You must be finding it difficult to hide your anxiety from your 3 year old. As soon as we know that there is a possibility of having cancer our emotions are all over the place and we cry at the slightest thing, so please don't feel that you are on your own and, as if this only happens to you. It will get easier once you know your results, irrespective of the outcome and, your mood will improve once you move on to treatment if this is needed.

Have you got an appointment for your results, or are you still waiting for one? I do hope that you get your results soon and that they reveal nothing untoward. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
