Thyroid surgery on Wednesday!

Yikes!

I can’t believe it’s  finally happening. Was all gowned up in August, but they cancelled and said I wasn’t recovered from pnuemonia. After that I’ve had blood clots in my lung etc etc.

So I’m finally well enough. Fingers crossed. This surgery is for diagnosis. Thyroid nodule was suspicious on ultrasound. FNA 1 was negative, FNA 2 was atypical . Pet scan showed ‘uptake’ in nodule. My mum also had  thyroid cancer at a similar age.

Be glad to get this over with!!! Yikes. And to finally get the results means I can move on and deal with whatever what I need to! X

  • Hello Sophie,

As you mentioned you're having surgery on Wednesday (assuming this was yesterday) I just wanted to pop here to ask how are you getting on?

Once you have a minute come back to let us know how it all went. We're keeping our fingers crossed for you.

    Warm wishes,

  • Hi.

I had my surgery three days ago under general anaestetic (can’t spell that word) for diagnosis. Half of my thyroid was removed as well as the nodule.

Going under was crazy. The anaesthetist said, you’ll feel like you’ve had a few too many glasses of wine. Clouds came over my eyes and then I woke up. I asked for morphine as I was in pain. They kept it coming.

I came home a day later. Will get my results in two weeks. The scar (although neat) is pretty big but I’m happy with it. If it is cancer, I will have another op to remove the other half of the thyroid. Atleast I will know what to expect xx

  • Hi Sophie N,

Just curious what size was ur nodule that they said they'd remove the other half if it was cancer?

  • Hi.

The nodule was 3cm by 2cm in June. Im not sure if it had grown when it was taken out.

I also have a tiny mm one on the other side.

When my mum had thyroid cancer, they only took one side, so when I get my results next week, I’ll be asking about this.
