MPN

Hi, I am waiting for the results for jak2 tests. I have had results of over 450 in my platlets on routine blood tests going back 14 years some spiking up to 650 but my GP always said that was my normal. I have been to the doctors with pressure headaches coming and going for about the last 4 years. I recently saw a new GP at my practice due to being tired and wanted to see if it was menopause. My latest tests came back at high platelet again so he referred me to a hemotology consultant. He has sent off for the jak2 tests, I am wondering at the likelihood of essential thrombocytosis and what this will mean for me?

  • Hello MandaJ,

I just wanted to welcome you to the forum. It's good they are doing all the necessary investigations and that you have now been referred to a hematology consultant who will I am sure get to the bottom of it and be able to tell you more about your latest test results. We do have some information on our website on essential thrombocythaemia which you can find here. If you have any questions on ET, don't hesitate to give a call to our cancer nurses on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm. Try not to do too much online research though or anticipate what it might be yet and hopefully it won't be too long now before you get some definite answers.

Wishing you the best of luck for your coming JAK2 tests. If you can, do keep us updated on what you find out.

    Best wishes,
