Possible Lymphoma?

Hi everyone,

I’m posting to here after driving myself mad reading half of google with my symptoms. I found a lump on the side of my neck around 8 weeks ago. I’ve had a couple of viruses throughout winter as I often do so thought initially that it was a swollen lymph node in response to that. I hadn’t been paying much attention to it, however I noticed that it was getting smaller, to the point it was barely there and bigger again to it’s original size, sometimes the size would change throughout the day! I then also noticed a much smaller one on the other side of my neck so I decided to go and get everything checked at the doctors. I hadn’t experienced any other symptoms besides some dizziness. The doctor had a good feel of them and ordered a load of blood tests. She said they didn’t feel concerning but still wanted an ultrasound done regardless. My bloods all came back normal (besides some very low vitamin d) and I’m now awaiting an ultrasound. The lump which changes size can be very painful and the pain is radiating up through my cheek, ear and in to my head. I’m also so worried about the dizziness as I do quite a dangerous job where becoming dizzy and unsteady really isn’t ideal.

I have no idea what to do from here. It is causing me immense anxiety and impacting on me being able to live a normal life now. I feel silly for being so anxious when my doctor isn’t that concerned but I can’t work out why else my lymph nodes would have suddenly swollen. In need of some words of advice on how to cope with this part of the process :(

  • Hi .. this seems a good forum for support ... I only found it today ... I am chair of a county support group for lymphoma patients set up by Lymphoma Action (the new name for the Lymphoma Association) 6 years ago ... you might look at the national website for Lymphoma Action and on there you will see a link to all the Support groups around the country ... there is also a helpline number ... if you ring that you can talk to an advisor and she will give you the number of someone like me at your local support group. We are not medical people but all of us have either experienced lymphoma or are the partner of someone with it and through our own experiences we can tell you what to expect prior to diagnosis, following diagnosis, during treatment and following treatment. The LA can send you an excellent book on Understanding Lymphoma ... hopefully your support group will allay  your current fears and give you the best support you need right now.

I wish you all the best in your diagnosis .. do come back here if you want to chat further ..

  • Thank you Jill.  I’m terrified  I just had a bad year. Had

a heart operation.  Battled pneumonia twice. Both times weeks in hospital.

Now this.  Also went through a nasty patch in marriage.

And I just feel so alone. Hubby does his best.  Worse is

not diagnosed.  Still the waiting game.   Thank you

  • Thank you for all of your replies. [@sangha]‍ I am so sorry you are having such an awful time. Yes I am in some pain, it comes and goes. I am finding the anxiety harder to deal with than the pain. When are you getting your results? It is such an awful waiting game.

[@Jill.346]‍ that’s very useful information, thank you! I am also not diagnosed, however if I get anymore indicators from upcoming tests that it may be headed that way then I will definitely give that helpline a go. It’s so very hard not to just jump to the conclusion that it is definitely cancer and that is it.

  • Girl 141. How are you.  I suppose to get results

31st from biopsy. But they had to send it further. As he

did say it’s not breast cancer but possible lymphoma or a nasty infection.  So another wait.

Mines in breast and underarm. I’m waiting for a call then

they will call me in. Which is pathetic. Xx.  How about

    you x

  • Sangha, I’ll keep my fingered crossed those results come through to you soon!

I’m still awaiting my ultrasound appointment. The nodes on my neck appear to have shrunk a bit but I am struggling a lot with dizziness. Ended up in a&e the other night with the dizziness and they said they think it is Benign positional vertigo. The a&e doctor had a feel of my glands as well and said they seemed okay but an ultrasound would be a good idea just to rule out a thing nasty. Trying to get a referral to ENT as well, he seemed confused as to why my regular GP hasn’t referred me there yet.

Other than that I am just trying to stay away from googling my symptoms and keeping as calm as possible until I have any more results back.

How are your symptoms now? Are you managing to control the pain?

    All the best x

  • Girl 141
