Endometrial thickness of 9mm

so just had a scan and was told have endometrial thickness of 9mm, I have had some lower pain and brown dishcharge that smelt.. Had a biopsy done today now it’s the waiting game. I am really worried..

  • Hi Sunshine

I am 50 years old and no they didnt mention hetrogenous to me.  The thickness of my lining was also 15mm. When i saw the consultant she did re assure me that a very thick lining doesn't necessarily mean cancer, whereas my gp was the complete opposite and said it was most likely cancer.

Please dont worry. You can make yourself ill worrying.  whatever the outcome, we have so many treatments available these days.  Once you have your hysteroscopy and a biopsy is taken you can then take it from there.

I wish you all the best, Good luck xxx

  • Nikki Thank you so much , Been referred urgently so I have to have hysteroscopy in 1 week , sorry to ask again , when youre endo measured 15mm was this before menopause ,did youre periods came every months , sorry im just completely not my self , I just dont want to hurt my family , that is worrying me so much

  • Hi Beautiful

Yes i was referred for an urgent hysteroscopy following my scan. My periods were not every month.accroding to their blood tests my hormones showed i was menopausal  But i was still having irregular periods. The consultant was concerned that according to my hormone levels, the cells in my endometrium should NOT be growing at the pace they were, my endometrium cells were very active. Those are the words she used. As you can imagine you fear the worst and i had mentally prepared myself for a cancer diagnosis and read up everything in terms of treatment, surgery etc. I got so worked up, but kept a brave face for the world. In the end the biopsy results cane back negative. It was a sense of releif for me. However the consultant was still dubious and repeated hysteroscopy 3 months later and still ok. Then i had another hysteroscopy 9 months later and again it was negative But my cells are still overactive which is why they have put a mirena coil in and then discharged me.

I know its easier said than done, but please try not to worry, some people wish to close the door and dont want to know anything, others research to know everything about the condition . I fall in the latter category. I armed myself with all the information so i could ask them question each time i had an appointment and i was trying to prepare myself for things to come.

I wish you all the best, big hug to you my dear , i wish you strength to deal with what you are going through. Remember it will all be ok, whatever the outcome. The best thing is that whatever it is, has been picked up and you can be monitored and treated. There are some amazing treatments out there honestly. Please do let me know how you get along with your hysteroscopy   Xxxx

  • Hi beautiful friend

Its normal to feel the way you're feeling and the waiting around is agonising. Once you have a hysteroscopy they will take a biopsy to confirm what the diagnosis is.  Remember a person can have abnormally thickening of the endometrium without it being cancer. And even if it is a postive diagnosis there are a lot of options i.e hysterectomy etc etc.

You are right its not possible just to look at a part of the body.and confirm whether its cancer or not. A biopsy must be done to confirm cancer cells. So please please be strong, you're not on your own. Speak to the Mcmillan nurses. You need to be emotionally strong. And no you're not stupid you are an intelligent woman who is trying to hold it together for her family whilst she is confused and breaking inside
