Small fixed firm lymph node in neck

IHi I’m worrying about a small firm, fixed, non painful posterior cervical lymph node that is on my left side. I noticed it a little over 5 weeks ago and am absolutely confident it was not there prior.

I have a history of being a heavy drinker0, of which I stopped in January of this year. I noticed two white patches in my throat and a biopsy that revealed hyperplasia. Was also having a constant scratchy throat so Dr. suggested a tonsillectomy. I have been dealing with multiple sites in my mouth that keep resulting in sores and irritations on a regular ongoing basis in the same exact areas. Concerned this is due to field changes from alcohol.

My fear is this maybe pointing to oral cancer that either has been missed or is in an occult location.

I ended up getting an ultrasound on Friday afternoon but haven’t heard anything back yet. Is there anyone who has had a lymph node like this and it not be cancerous?

The waiting is torture!

Thanks,

Tammy (46 years old)

  • Hello Tammy,

Many on our forum will relate to what say when you describe this waiting as torture. I really hope you won't have to wait too long and that you find out more soon.

Well done for managing to stop drinking since January and make sure you mention your history to your doctor. It's great you have had this ultrasound on Friday afternoon and it won't be long now until you get some definite answers.

I hope you will hear from others here who have had a similar experience with a lymph and that they will come and share their story with you.

Keep us updated when you get some news about your results if you don't mind!

    Best wishes,
