Blood/mucus stool

Hi

For tge past 8 months ive had blood and mucus in stools, i went to the docs and they said IBS, tge symptoms persisted so i went back, they took blood tests which were all normal, a stool test which said i had high calproctin levels (1200) so gp said i had suspected IBD, i have a colonoscopy appt in 2 weeks. Obviously no one can diagnose other than the docs after colonoscopy but im freaking out and expecting the worst! Has anyone else had anything similar? I have absolutely so other symptoms just mucus at rhe top of stool (first bit to come out) then blood on the outside sometimes quite a bit sometimes barely any and thats it but it has been every stool apart from maybe 5 in total for the last 8 months! Maybe a slight niggle in left lower side of stomach occasionally right but nothing major at all.

No family history, no weight loss, no tiredness, bowel habbits normal, no pain, no other symptoms, just an increase in anxiety!

Thanks for reading

  • Thank you

I'll let you know what happens x

  • Thanks Gem.

Your colonoscopy is on the 3rd I just read from earlier post. How are you feeling about it? My daughter had one when she was early 20's, she was anxious but it went ok she said. It's natural to be nervous about these sort of things.

Thanks for the support all. I will let you know my results x

  • Yes I am anxious, I am starting the strict diet today, just not looking forward to the actual procedure itself.

    Thank you both x

  • Is Lime Cordial okay to drink before a colonoscopy?

  • Good luck for your test. Everything will be ok

I will do my procedure on 22 nd now

  • Hi [@jemstone123]‍

Sorry don't know the answer to your question, hope you managed to find out though?

Hope you are not feeling too anxious today re your procedure. Hope it goes well on Wednesday  X

  • Thank you! :)  my appointment is at 10am today and I have to say that bowel prep was a challenge! I am surviving off 4 hours kip and I was sick twice from drinking two litres in one night... I am just awaiting for my dad to pick me up to take me over to the hospital.

I am still quite anxious though, don't like anything unfamiliar haha.

    How are you?.

    All the best,

    Jem x

  • Morning! Please let me know how you are. Poor you, you must be exhausted. You can rest later. All over soon!

I am ok thanks, no results still ! But stools are normal so I am hoping all is ok. Just trying to contact docs now.

    Speak soon x

  • Good Morning to you both.

My first Colonoscopy experience went okay and I am now feeling better that I've got it all over with to be honest. I wanted to update everyone how it went to help anyone else who is feeling anxious about getting one..

I was anxious and I had to wait 2 hours before I was seen, which didn't help because this just made my anxiety worse. I guess things always take longer due to Covid and the appointments were delayed due to other procedures taking longer. So be prepared for a wait longer than your appointment time. I have to say the bowel prep was harder than the procedure in my experience, if you have a morning appointment be prepared to drink two litres of bowel prep the evening before.

I was still anxious all the way to the room where it was to be done, however, the nurses (team) were brilliant in settling me and I did have sedation but It just felt like nothing had gone into my system, I felt exactly the same, the most uncomfortable bit was the rectal examination before they inserted the scope, apart from mild cramping it was painless. I ended up watching the screen and asking 'what everything was'.  It lasted 20 minutes as I had a good bowel prep. (make sure you drink all the Moviprep alongside alot of clear water - ironically)

They took 14 biopsies which felt like a weird tug in places.

My results: Mild patchy colonic inflammation in three areas of the colon.

I am now awaiting the results of my biopsies which may take upto 6 weeks.

I hope that helps anyone who is waiting for a Colonoscopy at the moment.

    All the best,

    Jem
