Cervical abnormalities and pregnant- please help!

Hi,

I am 24 weeks pregnant and have been having bleeds through my pregnancy.

I had a speculum the other day and she said my cervix did not look right and sent me for a colposcopy.

I have had an ectropion on my cervix for the last five years.

The doctor said my ectropion looks.extensive and slightly different appearance -raised.

She took 3 biopsies and said do not worry but fast tracked the results.

I am not out of my mind with worry!!

I had a clear clear April 2017 and a clear colposcopy on the ectropion in 2014.

I am terrified it has turnt to cancer (which I did not think ectropion cam do...) or it has been cancer all a long and missed.

It that cancer has developed in the same site as the ectropion.

I suffer with anxiety and being pregnant it all feels terrible and I keep looking at my 5 year old and crying..

Not one has ever been concerned when looking at it before and  ever suggested a colposcopy. I cannot believe it fine a normal if she biopsied it.

Sorry for the rambling but not sure if anything can advice or help???

Thanks x

  • Hello Cbear and welcome.    I am sorry that you are having all these worries during your pregnancy - a time when you should be looking forward to the birth of your child.  I have looked at the only medical website that I use - the NHS website - which quite clearly states that an ectropion is in no way linked to cervical cancer (as you know).  It sounds as though whoever sent you for a colpolscopy is being very thorough to check everything out because of your pregnancy; this is good practice and does not mean that have a problem.    As I have no personal experience of your condition you may find it reassuring to ring the nurses here (Freefone 0808 800 4040) - they are here Monday-Friday 9am-5pm.  Best wishes to you and for your family.  Annie

  • Hi,

im just wondering how you got on as I am going for a colposcopy tomorrow at 36 weeks pregnant for what sounds like something very similar. Did the biopsies make you bleed and how long did it take to recover? Wondering if I have to have biopsies whether I will need a section as there won’t be enough heal time before my baby arrives.

    Thanks
