Lump above left collar bone

I'm  a 27yo female and about 3 weeks ago I found a lump above my left collarbone. It's about the size of a tic tac, it's movable And I think quite soft? Even though the more i touch it the harder it seems! I went to the doctors and she didn't seem too concerned as I've had no other symptoms. She said it's just a shotty gland that popped out because I've had a cough at the the beginning of the month. She told me to come back in 3 weeks. I went back after 2 with anxiety levels through the roof. I stupidly googled the symptoms and read all the horror stories about the swollen lymph nodes above collar bone always mean something bad... I think I could also feel another lump above and under the first one, my cough came back as well, however, it's not that bad (it wasn't the first time). She's examined my neck again and ordered a full blood test, but no scan or anything. Is the blood test enough to determine whether more tests are needed? Or shall I push a scan? Also, can touching a swollen gland make it swell more/make glands around it swollen as well?

Apart from a massive anxiety about this and a bit of a cough I'm feeling okay, keep going to the gym etc. I've had an odd ache there and then but I'm not sure how much of it is anxiety and how much can be a symptom. Did anybody out there had a similar situation?

  • The scan went fine! Nothing unusual at all thank god I can finally breathe. I'm very happy.

thank you for checking in :) xx

  • just wanted to say thank you to both of you for being open about what the doctors have said! i'm 18 and had the ?pfizer jab about 3 weeks ago and had a painful swollen lymph node come up around a day later, it's no longer painful but i can still feel it there. The internet is so scary so really glad i came across this page, thinking of getting an appointment just incase but i feel a lot better now!

  • Hey sweet! I'm the same age so I know the fear and feeling how young u are but I just had my second dose today ahaha so hopefully I don't get more. I say get the appintment! You should with any lump hun but I'm 100% sure it's the same as this but I'm only saying to get it checked so u can put any evil thoughts at rest. But I promise it will be the same as me. Mine didn't come up until 2 weeks after and took over a month and 3 different doctors and begging to get my ultra sound but u won't need to do that. I hand and heart promise you because that's exactly what I had by the sound of it and months later I STILL have them. They may never go doctors said but don't worry I promise you :) sending love xx

  • oh the relief!  thank you so much girl! i have booked an appointment and will try to push for an ultrasound to put my mind at rest, should 100% be spoken about more as i've read a few people have had this symptom, lumps anywhere are so scary! thank u again xxxx

  • Not at all, this forum has been a comfort to me too, so i'm happy if we've helped you feel a little less freaked out!

Over 3 months on and i still have the swollen gland under my jaw & neck stiffness.
I'm hoping that it goes away at some point as i'm fed up with thinking about it!

All the best to you :)

    xx

  • I'm 24 years old, yesterday I had pain above my left collarbone and when I touched it I felt a rubbery lump under the skin, it's painful and since I have been messing with it it's gone all red. I have been anxious ever since I felt it I can't sleep and I feel so shakyI lost my grandma to cancer recently and I am so scared at the moment. Plus the internet says lumps above the collarbone are not normal has anyone got any advice at all?

  • I thank you all. I suffer from severe health anxiety and OCD not the best mix. Last January I got my covod booster, next week my lymph node on collar bone came up. Very squishy and moveable. Multiple blood tests and different drs feeling it, including three breast nurses saying reaction of the jab. Yet this chat has finally made me feel calm about it.
