Lump above left collar bone

I'm  a 27yo female and about 3 weeks ago I found a lump above my left collarbone. It's about the size of a tic tac, it's movable And I think quite soft? Even though the more i touch it the harder it seems! I went to the doctors and she didn't seem too concerned as I've had no other symptoms. She said it's just a shotty gland that popped out because I've had a cough at the the beginning of the month. She told me to come back in 3 weeks. I went back after 2 with anxiety levels through the roof. I stupidly googled the symptoms and read all the horror stories about the swollen lymph nodes above collar bone always mean something bad... I think I could also feel another lump above and under the first one, my cough came back as well, however, it's not that bad (it wasn't the first time). She's examined my neck again and ordered a full blood test, but no scan or anything. Is the blood test enough to determine whether more tests are needed? Or shall I push a scan? Also, can touching a swollen gland make it swell more/make glands around it swollen as well?

Apart from a massive anxiety about this and a bit of a cough I'm feeling okay, keep going to the gym etc. I've had an odd ache there and then but I'm not sure how much of it is anxiety and how much can be a symptom. Did anybody out there had a similar situation?

  • Hey, So I just thought I'd post a small update... my blood results came back clear, which I guess is good news? When I asked about a scan she said the gland is too small to do a scan on it and that she's not worried. She said the gland is because of my cough and that i can feel it more because I'm slim. She did give me a referral for a chest scan to reassure me though. I'm still not completely worry free but I guess I'll go for a chest  scan and if that comes back clear I just keep an eye on the lump then!

  • Hi I hope all is well.  Wanted to know what the outcome was with the tic tac sized lump on left collarbone.  I have similar and am very anxious

  • Hey, it was all clear, thankfully. My chest scans were clear, one year on it's still there, it's not changing and I'm healthy. By all means go and get it checked out, my doctor told me that if it was something sinister it would be getting bigger. I hope it all goes well xx

  • I'm 14 and I play rugby, I'm healthy but recently my collar bone has been aching and I felt it and it appears that I have a small lump that is movable, this is worrying and I've been reading and I don't think it's lymph nodes or anything I think it's just build up of red cells but I'm not quite sure. Please if there is anyone that can help reply.

  • Thank you for posting your story I have been so worried as my nodes are up one above my collar bone size of tic tac has been there around 18 months. I now have one on the left side higher up and the glands under jaw bone there. I have been to doctor who said she is not concerned but to keep an eye over the next two weeks but they have been there 4 weeks already! So scary

  • Sorry you're going through this. My doctor told me the same at the time, to keep an eye. I was back like 3 times full of anxiety, what she hasn't told me is that they're only a concern if they keep getting bigger, and they wont go away once theyve shot up. I was expecting them to go away so was freaking out, wish she told me that first time I went! Mine never disappeared, I'm still healthy so fingers crossed its nothing serious!

    Take care

  • Thank you that really helps. So glad you are still healthy. Stay safe and thanks for taking the time to reply xx

  • Hello, I have a similar problem and waiting for a referral. How are you now?

  • Hey I was just wondering what your bumps on collarbone feel like? I've just been to the doctors because I've found a few squishy lumps on the bone not in the dip where you're told to check. The doctor VERY quickly felt them and at first said she couldn't feel anything, so I showed her where one was and how I felt it and all she said was "yep normal" I have severe anxiety waiting for other tests and the doctors are clearly fed up of me having multiple problems. Do you think I should just forget about the lumps? Everyone tells me that if the doctor said it's normal then to forget but I just can't stop thinking about how the internet says that you shouldn't feel any bumps on your collarbone ️

  • I'm an 18 year old girl with no history of cancer in the family and I don't smoke (I know it's not always relevant) but I had my COVID phizer vaccine then a week later I was around kissing my boyfriend who then later tested positive for COVID. Around two weeks after my injections vaccine I had one swollen lymph node on the the left side of my neck just above collar bone and side of neck (I never tested positive for COVID this whole time btw) and then two days later another two appeared right next to it so when I roll my shoulder back it looks like one swollen lump. It started to make my arm and legs tingle and burn and I went a&e worrying and they said they are on trapped nerves and she inspected the lumps and said she isn't concerned for them and refused to do blood tests. I had a doctor appointment yesterday too and he's referring me to a hospital for an ultrasound scan to "put me at ease and calm me down" Cus of how stressed I was but i don't know if he was concerned or not lol. He didn't seem it but I have no infection in my ear or throat. I had no other problems apart from usual aching and burning and tingles coming outward from the area of them but I assume it's because it's on the nerves which the hospital said? I woke up at 1 am last night shaking with anxiety crying because I'm so young and stressed. It's been nearly two weeks with these and causing me to get no sleep Cus I'm up all night worrying. I don't know if it has anything to do with fighting off COVID and that's why I didn't get it or the vaccine Cus it's on the same side I got it, but then why would they only appear two weeks after that I know of?  I'm scared
