Bleeding

I wonder if anyone could give me advise. I’m on cerrazette contraceptive pill, you take it every day and don’t have periods. I have been in it for 12 years. In 2011 I had a bleed which lasted a week I went to doctors they examined me and said everything looked fine and it was probable a breakthrough bleed. It stopped and didn’t happen again till 2014 same thing one week then stopped. Anyway I’ve started again it’s not heavy not enough to get onto a towel and only when I go toilet and wipe (sorry this is gross char) but I’ve had some lots??? Not having a period for such along time I don’t know if this is normal? My smears are up to date and am not due one till next year. I’m in no pain. Any advice would be welcome I’ve told myself I will go doctors Monday coming if it hasn’t stopped but you can’t stop the worrying

  • Hi o started this post way back. The pill won't cause you any problems with your fertility, it's only a hormone. Once you stop taking it to try for a baby your body will regulate, you will have periods. Xx

  • Thank you for taking the time to reply.

That's helped put my mind at ease xxx

  • Hi,

I was looking at some of the new comments and came across yours about the double dosing. I've also been double dosing now for 3 months, non stop. It stopped my bleeding until a week ago. Got some (sorry tmi) mucus brown discharge with red tinged stuff after sex and then for a day or two after and after 4 days clear now on day 3 of brown discharge that seems to be up and down.

I think the double dosing is just a palm off the doctors are using at the moment but has yours settled at all? I got the response of "when covid is over we will review the contraception you are on" kinda talk.. which is fine but doesn't help for now and annoyed the double dosing only worked for a couple of months.  But just wanted to see how you are getting on and whether you're still double dosing? I've read other forums that say if you go back to one you will get bleeding as causes fluctuations in your hormones again. Xxx

  • Hi all,

ive been on desogestrel for about 6 months now, I've not had many problems with it and not really had a period either since starting it other than the occasional bleed. Every bleed is usually light and comes randomly but not often. This week however the light bleeding was accompanied by some lower abdominal pain that only occurs when standing up? It's quite odd, when laying or sitting down i can't feel it. Is this normal? It's been 3 days consistently now, the pain isn't unbearable but I still notice it. Reading answers on google is a nightmare and worrying me more :( thanks if there's any advice .

  • Just reading through the post.... hope you are all well!

ive been on the same pill for at least 6 years, maybe more. I'm not allowed the combined pill due to migraines and my bmi. Anyway when I first started it I had a good 3 months of light bleeding just while it settled in my system and after that nothing then odd days break through which I thought was pretty good going! BUT I've been bleeding now for the last 8 weeks, I have a scan tomorrow so we'll see if that shows anything. If I do seem to stop (and we take the opportunity) sex makes it worse, I gave cramps and sometimes stop me in my tracks! I have to use tampons or towels. I've had the odd pain in my back and thighs too.
Fingers crossed scan is all clear then it may be time to think of a different contraception. I'm 31 with 3 children, 2 of which have additional needs, I definitely don't want anymore bubbas so if I can't find the right contraception maybe it's time OH gets the snip

  • Hi gemma1603

My daughter is having periods now after having none.  She has been on Cerazette for about 9 yrs.  How did you get on with your scan?

  • Hi,

I know this post was a while ago. I'm so happy I came across this thread I've been on this pill for the last 8 months as the other pill was causing migraines. I've had no periods since starting however just started to show some bleeding when I wipe (sorry). It seems common reading the thread however, I've also noticed some are experiencing some other symptoms I'm facing but didn't link to the pill. Bloating, dull lower abdominal, lower back and groin pain. I've had ultra sounds which they said all looked good not heard anything since.

Any my gosh my anxiety for health has gone through the roof, I've never been this bad but all links with starting this pill.

Could these symtpoms be something the pill is causing?

  • Hi Anita,

I am on the same boat. I have been on this pill from November last year and last week I've been spotting still happening. Smear came back clear and swabs too! Not sure where we go from here.
i have some back pain sometimes feels like period pain! I will be going on Thursday for examination.

I hope You have gotten some answers since you posted!

  • Hi!

This thread helped me so much and I thought I'd share my update with you all..

December I started double dosing and still am. For 10 weeks I was fine but then it started again, with abdominal pain, legs feeling week, tired and anxiety. For example I walk about 3/4 miles on one walk and after 1 mile I felt exhausted and had to sit down. I got home and realised I was bleeding again, old blood.

I had previously suspected I had thrush but doctors kept refusing to check for infection so I had only treated myself with oral capsule.

One day after a 7 day bleed that my discharge (sorry TMI) had increased in volume and was quite thick. No other symtoms but I also felt 2 more cysts on my cervix (I was told in October last year I had one). After I felt them I immediately started another bleed. Doctors saw my quickly and referred me. However, 2 weeks later they finally gave me my results..

Turns out I had a yeast infection practically on my cervix, after being told time and time again thrush doesn't cause bleeding they then said it did on this occasion. Oral capsule wouldn't have fully gotten rid of it either so had to do an oral capsule followed by 2 pessary treatments 2 weeks apart.

I now have the all clear and almost 3 months since a bleed.

I knew something wasn't right and I kept pushing. Please note any symtoms you have what so ever! The yeast infection was actually upsetting my bowels (having some blood in stool) energy levels and caused cysts on my cervix. I had low energy and was a lot more anxious. I'm now talking prevention methods and feel so much better.

The double dosing worries me but no side effects so going to stay on it if doctors say its okay. (Got a gynecologist appointment in a few days after a 4 month waiting list).

Make sure all infections are ruled out before progressing further and listen to your body . I've got a friend in peri menopause who keeps having breakthrough bleeds on this pill after many years and they last about 3 weeks at a time but she came off them and said it was like a scene from dexter! So she might be having to readjust again.

  • Has anyone here got an answer? Im in the same boat and really worried. On cerelle nearly 5 years and havent bled once until a week ago. Bleeding for a week with bad cramps and leg pain. I have health anxiety and am worried sick. I had cin3 in the past but smears have been clear since. Last one was a year ago.
